Chain dropping etc.

I doubt I'll ever buy anything Specialized again. In March of 2023 I bought one of these bikes and had nothing but problems with shifting, chain drops, a cassette needing to be replaced all within the first month. Specialized and the dealer I bought it from gave me a brand new replacement free of charge. Now 3-4 months in, I'm having the same type of problems plus breaking a spoke in the first month. Chain got caught in the front plastic guard when it dropped once, almost throwing me off of the bike. This is very frustrating as I put on some serious milage and I'm always worried about where it will leave me stranded.

Great general commuter: 1,200 miles in 8 months, no issues

Bought 2022 X3 as a commuter and general town/trail/campus bike in PA. 1,200 miles so far, probably 75% asphalt, 20% smooth trail / gravel, 5% actual trail. I have done virtually nothing to it since I bought it except a free 6 month tuneup. I am 6'4" 230 and have the XL. I see others have had chain issues, I think my chain may have come off maybe 3 times in those 1,200 miles, so annoying but extremely infrequent. Handles light trails fairly well considering that is not its intended purpose. Perfect for commuter and around town/campus bike with mixed use. Happy so far, will check back in at 2,400 miles!

Love the Sirrus X5, great

Love the Sirrus X5, great bike, very smooth, can be fast if you want it to be and just as comfortable over gravel or light trails. The 1 X drive train is geared perfectly, plenty of low range for the rough stuff and unless you are pushing 24-25 mph you will not spin out either. Fun bike for easy miles! To Specialized: making your customer order the bike through your website but still shipping to the LBS is lame and cuts the LBS out of profits that they desperately need, make the inventory available to them.

Chain dropping issue

The Sirrus X 3.0 bike performs well off road and on and I like it ... but it has the unfortunate tendency to drop the chain frequently (~5 times a week). This happens on pavement when changing gears in the lower range. I took it to the bike shop and the mechanic was aware of the problem and suggested either a chain guard or a clutch derailleur. Problem being Shimano didn't have any in stock in Australia! In the meantime I will try adjusting my riding by not using the lower gears where the chain tension is lowest. But with the limited number of gears this is not a long term solution. I thought the fewer gears would be simpler but this got rid of the chain guide and this is probably causing the chain drop problem. Until this design problem gets fixed I can't recommend this bike which pains me because I like everything else about it. Specialized really need to recall these bikes to fix the problem because at $1300 it is not acceptable.
