Yep, we just re-read the spec sheet and still can’t believe it either. The Rockhopper Elite is one helluva lot of bike.

Air-sprung fork? Let me introduce you to your new friend, Judy. Discerning when it comes to your drivetrain? You’ll find no fault—and no grade too steep—with a wide-range Shimano Deore 1x11 drivetrain. Why stop there? We didn’t, in order to allow you the pleasure of stopping yourself with Shimano’s eager-to-please and oh-so-capable MT200 hydraulic disc brakes.

Each is impressive in their own right, but the magic really lies in how they all come together into a Rockhopper that serves up singletrack with a nice big side of ‘ Whoah, so that’s what a real bike feels like.’

  • A heart of gold, presented in our lightweight yet durable Premium A1 Aluminum, the Rockhopper’s butted aluminum frame features hydroformed top and downtubes in order to keep weight low and strength high, all while providing increased standover clearance, slick internal cable routing and dropper-post compatibility.
  • With the goal of making sure that the Rockhopper offers both the best fit and best performance for every person, no matter their measure, we’ve paired each Rockhopper frame size with the optimal wheel size. The result is a Rockhopper to fit every rider and the assurance that every Rockhopper is rolling on the best-handling wheel for its frame size.
  • The Rockshox Judy TK brings size-specific travel to the show in a performance that’s sure to impress, ensuring consistent geometry and handling, regardless of frame or wheel size.
  • Shimano hydraulic disc brakes pack a mean bite but deliver their power with a refined, intuitive feel to make for a package that punches way above its pay grade.
  • Keep things simple with a durable 1x11 Shimano Deore drivetrain that offers plenty of range along with a clutch-equipped rear derailleur that keeps your ride quite—and your chain on.
  • Pair dead-reliable hubs from Formula with our 25-millimeter internal diameter, hookless Stout rims for a wheelset hat-trick: strong, light and durable.

Great bike for a great price!!

I know this is considered an entry level bike, but imo it’s more intermediate to even mid level( w few minor upgrades)! I couldn’t be happier w my purchase and the whole process buying directly from Specialized! I will be purchasing another bike soon for my young son!!

Fits in my Honda Ridgeline truck bed

This bike is large enough for me and still fits the fork mount system in my Honda Ridgeline truck bed. Great bike with many nice features. Specialized let me return my 29er that was too large to fit in the truck bed. Great customer service.

Great choice for the money

Things to note: 1) This bike is difficult to bunnyhop but very easy to ride fast on pavement due to being ever-so-slightly more "leaned over" in riding position. 2) The bike is the best dang deal around. Period. But, don't expect the mentions of "light" to be what you would get at a higher price point. 3) The brown and green color options look different in person than they do on the Specialized site (I cannot speak to the light blue). 4) If your legs are strong or you happen to be riding this bike downhill on a paved surface, it is likely that you will be maxing out the gears (riding on the highest gear/smallest rear cog). Overall, I couldn't be happier with the purchase. This bike will get me outside, have me riding happily, and leave my budget friendly to upgrades and adjustments/new parts. Highly recommended!

Overall good.

Frame checks out as good, though there were a few factory marks QC missed. Stout chainring/crankset is single use only, which is a bit disappointing from a sustainability perspective. The bikes ride well. Hub engagement is the only real letdown and not many options to upgrade with this axle size.

Best bike ever

Rides like glass, can take off of cliffs, and can even pedal uphill relatively easily! Super lightweight bike and it just feels incredible.

Great Value

11 speed Deore and an air fork is great value at this price point. Thru axles, boost sizing, and modern geometry would be nice to have but no one is offering that at this price. It’s a great bike to get into the sport.

Great bike for anything!

Happy with the bike! It is sufficiently capable to handle any trail without being excessively expensive. There is enough low gearing for the steepest of climbs and while there could be another 1/2 gear higher for high speed downhills, it's hardly worth mentioning. I know the industry is leaning towards 29ers but I like the quicker handling of the 27.5s and am glad I got them on a medium frame. The brakes are good and the tires are the perfect size. For personalization mods, I cut down the wide handlebars and put a suspension seat post on. It's not the lightest for being a hardtail, but overall it's a good value.

AMAZING 5 ⭐️

This bike is so nice and smooth. It is perfect for the price and has a great fork. I would recommend nicer tires or going tubeless. Other than that this bike is amazing on all levels. Would recommend to anyone who is really trying to get into mountain biking!!!

Good foundation

Overall a well designed and built bike. Front cranks are cheap and throw away when worn out. Worst aspect is the amount of freewheel play. Will upgrade the wheels so maybe be better just to buy a more expensive model in the first instance.

Xc bike

Would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking to get into mountain biking and not sure if they want to try jumps but would not recommend taking it on anything my than a 2 foot drop or 5 foot table jump other than that very good for xc and tech climbs I struggle with the descents on tech but that is because I’m not at that skill yet other than that do not do medium sized jumps or drops it will fold like it it did to my rockhopper

Very capable trail and XC bike at a sweet price

Love: the range of frame sizes... The amazing range means anyone can get a Rockhopper that fits. Love: paint, decals, and finish materials and choices... The Rockhopper Elite has a consistent fit and finish that makes it look like a bike twice the price. Like: all the basics for real off road riding: the solo air fork with adjustable rebound provides control in the gnar and on fast fire road descents. The clutch derailleur and narrow-wide front sprocket keep the chain from bouncing off in the rough stuff. Like: tubeless ready makes it easy to get the best out of the very good OEM tires in the berms and over the rocks. Like: easy cable routing through the frame invites the dropper post install you know you want. Could do better: the front sprocket is not replaceable, it's permanently attached to the crank. You'll need a whole new crankset to change gearing.
