Hailing from Bend, Oregon, Ian came up through the U.S. development system as one of the most promising talents of his generation. By 22, he was racing WorldTour events for Team Sky, supporting legends like Froome and Thomas through the Alps and Pyrenees. Over the course of his pro road career, Ian lined up at all three Grand Tours—including the Tour de France—and built a reputation as a tireless teammate and world-class climber.
In 2019, Ian traded WorldTour contracts for dirt roads and new challenges. His transition to gravel racing marked the start of a new chapter—one where the stopwatch still matters, but the community, camaraderie, and joy of riding take center stage.
In 2021, Ian claimed one of gravel’s most prestigious titles: Unbound 200 Champion. It was a breakthrough moment, not just for his career, but for what he represents—a new kind of athlete in a new era of cycling.
Today, Ian lives in Vermont with his wife and two daughters, balancing elite-level racing with a commitment to family, local community, and growing the sport in authentic ways. As a Specialized Privateer, he’s not racing for a team bus or a paycheck—he’s racing for something bigger.
