I found out that not all 2.3's are actually 2.3 inches. My new tires were noticeably smaller than what I had before. I went out and gave these tires a run for their money through snow, mud, sand, gravel road, and asphalt. They are faster in all respects. They do slow down a little in mud or sand, but you gain control because the tire pushes through the loose top layer and gains traction. This tire gives me more control in all respects, giving up a small amount of speed in mud and sand. I will continue to test them.
