Whether your goal is to escape on gravel back roads, far from cars and crowds, toe the start line at your first gravel race, or simply get the most versatile bike on the road or dirt, no bike is better than the new Diverge. It's quite simply the fastest, most capable - and just maybe the most fun - alloy bike we've ever made, delivering a ride that's quick and lively, but stable and confidence inspiring when the terrain gets rough. With all-new gravel geometry and category leading tire clearance, the new Diverge represents everything we've learned over more than 40 years of riding road, gravel and dirt. The Diverge writes an entirely new chapter in the gravel bike category, so you can dream up entirely new rides. It's the ultimate getaway vehicle.

The Diverge Elite E5 utilizes our premium E5 alloy frame and a full carbon FACT fork for a fast, confident and comfortable ride on road, in the dirt, and over thick gravel. Shimano’s gravel inspired GRX 400 group shifts 2x10 gears smoothly on any terrain and Axis Elite alloy wheels with Pathfinder 38mm tires provide an efficient ride on pavement with the versatility for hard pack dirt riding.

  • Our Premium E5 Aluminum frame provides a stiff, light, and durable platform. When mated to our full carbon FACT fork, the Diverge Comp E5 becomes a light, lively and versatile bike ready to attack any surface.
  • We tossed gravel geometry ‘status-quo’ out the window. The new Diverge has the most progressive geometry we’ve ever created for a drop bar bike, giving riders a capable and stable bike in the dirt, that still feels responsive and nimble on the road. We’ve increased the frame’s reach, introduced a slacker head tube and a longer offset fork. All this creates incredible confidence with a planted feeling in the dirt, while spec’ing shorter stems keeps the overall cockpit length the same and the steering lively. We’ve kept the bike’s BB low to increase stability, but high enough to utilize with 650b wheels if that’s your jam.
  • We’ve given the Diverge plenty of rack mounts, including fork and top tube mounts, to ensure you can take what you need, no matter how far you plan to go, or how long you plan to stay out.
  • Nothing unlocks a bike’s capability like tire clearance, so we gave the new Diverge a whopping 47mm of tire clearance with a 700c wheel and 2.1” with a 650b wheel. Thanks to a drive side chain stay utilizing a machined alloy beam behind the chain rings we’ve created clearance without using a fragile dropped chain stay design or increasing chain stay length.

A great allrounder!

I bought my Diverge Elite E5 in early spring to practice for a long distance ride (235km). I enjoy the grip rounding corners and the diversity of it. Riding on paved and gravel roads is sheer fun. This bike has all i need!

Super great, responsive and nimble, really fun ride

I love my Diverge Elite E5 so much. It handles super well on either gravel, light trail, or road. I thought I only loved it so much because I have never had a quality bike prior to this one, so based on what I've ridden in the past it is a dream. But my partner who has decades more bike experience than me (MTN and road, both) and also typically rides nice expensive bikes, tried it out and agreed it was special and handled/felt like a much more expensive bike than it is. Also, I chose this model without the suspension fork feature because I was worried that the suspension version would be too squishy/soft for road handling. When I ride this on occasion on some rooty single-track it handles way better/more comfortably than expected, so I definitely have no regrets at all avoiding the suspension version of the series given the larger proportion of the time I'm on gravel/road. I love this versatile, snappy, nimble bike!!!!!! Thank you Specialized for making this awesome gravel bike!

First gravel bike…perfect. Out of box experience needed some adjustment.

This is my second bike purchased from specialized. I wanted a gravel bike that was good for both road and gravel. The feature set for diverge elite E5 seemed to be a perfect match for that with combination of gearing and tires. I have had to adjust the gear setting a bit to get the shifting right since the out of box experience didn’t seem to be right. But I have really enjoyed my gravel experience so far. Would recommend this bike for that combination road and gravel.

Nice, but no front rack mounts

Nice bike, handles well. Disappointing though that the front fork mounts don't line up for a typical front bike rack. Seems silly that Specialized wouldn't think about the fork mounts alignment

Great bike, convenient ordering

Light, shifts smooth and the online ordering process was fast and convenient. Bike arrived fast and even included a torque wrench to put the wheels and seat post on the bike. Very minimal assembly required. Loved the online sizing tool, didn't have to run into a bike shop to get measured.

Specialized Diverge Elite E5

For the most part I love the bike. It's lightweight and fast. It's great for road, gravel and light trail use. There are only a couple small things I have to complain about. The tires are too narrow and are not tubeless ready. Also the handlebar tape was put on sloppily.

Update to my original 15 May 2023 post

Update to my original review. After only five months and approximately 1800 miles the free hub failed. Imagine getting up looking forward to a good early morning ride to first see while pushing SUNRISE (bikes name) out of the garage the crank was rotating forward. Get on to just find out that the free bub has failed and the cassette want stop turning. I understand as the bikes go the Diverge Elite 5 is at the bottom of the barrel but still hard to believe such would happen. Learned to ride as a child, road many thousands of miles and have never had a hub fail and that is on the Walmart $200 systems. My bike shop was very good, handle the warranty aspect and installed a new free hub within a week. Call it over thinking but now I seem to be waiting on the failure. Respectfully, Danny

Good starter bike.

Great starter bike for getting on roads/gravel! I bought this bike to explore road biking with my boyfriend, who has been a longtime road bike fiend (he rides a Tarmac). Great ride, lots of fun. Specialized, make more small bikes (49) in prettier colors for ladies! Disappointed that my only option was orange because the “girly” teal color was sold out and other similar models didn’t have “girly” colors either :( I know we’re a small demographic but still. It doesn’t need to be pink or something, just not orange or red. I don’t love the shifting, which is why I’m leaving 4 stars. When shifting between the center back gears, it gets stuck trying to downshift especially. I think the levers need more distance between each other.

Outstanding!

After recently purchasing this bike from my local JE James, then taking it to a professional for a bike fit I was ready to hit one of the most challenging cycle routes in the UK, John O’Groats to Lands End. I knew it would be a challenge for me but never did I imagine how well this bike would not only handle the course but absolutely smash it. We literally drove on every surface you can possibly think of, from roads, to gravel tracks to dirt roads, mud paths, and downhill trails that some mountain bikes would struggle to handle. I CAN NOT tell anyone reading this how punishing some of the trails were that we rode on and it lapped it up. Specialized I take my hat off to you for the quality of this bike, and after over 1,000 miles of said terrain and routes I would quite happily take it back the opposite way and feel great comfort knowing it would get there with no issues.

Old amateur bike rider

Just bought this amazing bike. I have an old specialized road bike ( vintage) M2, which i love it but this one is something else. More comfortable, responsive, just a little heavier but it’s quality , color and frame geometry is outstanding. Chances are I will try another saddle and get used to it before “El tour de Tucson”. This bike is awesome on gravel and on the road I have no complaints. Probably I will buy another set of wheels in order just to swap’em quickly and probably will try carbon. As far I know this bike is awesome what i was expecting from specialized.

Great 1st Gravel Bike

First "real" bike has been great so far. I'm a relatively new cyclist and getting to know my ride has been pretty easy. I opted for a gravel bike over a road bike because of the mixed trails around where I live. Only downside is the handlebars are more road friendly than gravel. I wish they would have come a little wider, but nothing that can't be quickly upgraded. I am glad they had the color I liked vs. the other super bright tones.

Love riding SUNRISE each morning!

The DIVERGE E5 is a great choice for someone looking to get into cycling for the health beneifits. SUNRISE (her name) is a great cycle for my type of riding which is 80 / 20 paved & concrete / gravel. I ride 20 miles M-F and 40-50 on Saturday or Sunday. I cannot wait for the next ride. The health benefits have been all but unbelievable, I am down 15 pounds in 6 weeks and my ride speed and cadence have greatly increased. If a more expensive bike makes riding even better I hope I never sit on one! R/ Danny

Enjoy gravel n roads

Nice ride on the road n gravel. Easy to change tires if you want to. I changed the saddle. The wheels could be much better, they creak n go out of true. Change the wheels and it would be a great stock bike.

Context: novice cyclist accustomed to

Context: novice cyclist accustomed to old un-tuned “clapped” bikes. Bike is amazing! Smooth ride and extremely efficient: a 6 mile ride would leave me extremely fatigued with old bikes I used to ride. With this bike I’m going to need to triple my riding time so I get a more rigorous workout. Specialized customer service is absolutely the best. They still have a customer first culture and very polite, which is becoming harder and harder to come by nowadays. Being a novice I purchased the wrong size bicycle and they switched me out to the correct size swiftly and without any headaches.

So Versitile!

I ride a Stumpy evo , Turbo Levo and Specialized Tarmac!.... I love my 2022 Diverge comp. I would rather ride it on the Pavement than my Road bike....it a bit slower on the Pavement but way more comfort than the road bike!.... It's like having suspension on your road bike !... rough Pavement and dirt roads no problem! ...Even road it on some blue single track !...Just another option to get Out and Ride!! Yes I would recommend this bike!!

Purchased a 22 Diverge Elite.

Purchased a 22 Diverge Elite. I have about 200 miles on it so far and it has been fantastic. Swapped the stock tires for wider 42mm S Works Pathfinder Pros and I'm running them tubeless. Im my 2 weeks with this bike I've either been riding it, or thinking about riding it, pretty much 100 percent of the time.

The Bike lived up to

The Bike lived up to representations, both on tarmac and gravel. The bike tracks very well on steep gravel and climbs well with its gear ratios. The seat I still need to adjust for comfort. Had to have the shop adjust the GRX gearing as on the second ride, the bike would not shift out of the high gear. But after adjustment shifting with the 400 GRX was relatively smooth, but minor tweaking still is required on the middle gear shifts. But these are minor issues, overall the bike is terrific and after 8 rides including some long gravel rides I give high marks for this bike

Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

Straight from the shop it's beautiful: An amazing shade of orange-red that look great when clean and better when dirty. And no color doesn't make it better but it sure helps it spark joy whenever you look at it. The Diverge Elite E5 is very stable and has confidence-inspiring handling baked in while not being sluggish and feeling too floppy on the road. The frame and fork are very well built in Vietnam. The wheels are not tubeless compatible nor are the tires: 3 out of 10. The parts: 5 out of 10. The best thing that can be said about (most of) the parts is they give you a good gear range and let you ride the bike while you save up to replace them. Is it a mistake to buy this bike? Not if you go in with your eyes wide open looking to swap out the wheels and tires right away. Keep it for years and swap out the heavy and not so great parts for much better and you will have a great bike.

Nimble, rugged, and reliable

I was looking for one bike to do it all - quick on the road, rugged on gravel, and reliable for bike touring. This bike does it all. The aluminum frame is light and sturdy, giving the bike a nimble feel but also strong enough to load up with cargo. I put this bike through every kind of terrain and weather on a 1,300km touring trip across Thailand. It was super reliable and easy to maintain. Great bike and great value.

High quality riding experience!

This bike is wonderful. The thing I like most are the powerful brakes they are so much better than my old 1500. The shifters feel really nice and the geometry is comfortable. The paint job is amazing too-I love the orange color. It’s very striking. The only thing I dislike are the thru axles, I prefer my quick disconnect from my older bike. And one big huge con: this bike makes me REALLY sad when it’s winter time…since I can’t ride it! It’s quite expensive especially nowadays, but I still think it’s worth it. You won’t be disappointed.
