Turbo Vado 5.0

Delivery Icon

We deliver! Just say when and how.

When we set out to revamp our Turbo line, we knew that we needed to design a bike that best meets your needs. With our lives getting more hectic with each passing day, finding the tiny pockets of time savings can have a huge impact, and the Turbo Vado 5.0 truly embodies this concept. It utilizes our most advanced pedal-assist technologies, a high-quality component spec, and a suspension fork to take the edge out of those pesky potholes. No matter where you're going, you'll get there faster and in style with the Turbo Vado 5.0.

Beginning with the integrated Specialized 1.3 motor, it has a higher max torque, max watts, and better heat management and efficiency than its predecessors. It's the most advanced motor ever found on an urban e-bike. Of course, it still features a silent operating design with our Custom Rx Street Tune that takes the output and makes it the most usable for an urban environment. Think of it this way: The more power you put out, the more power the motor puts out, and this makes accelerations from a standstill both quick and efficient. The belt driven motor is also smooth, silent, and free of annoying vibrations. And the max speed? 28mph.

For the Vado 5.0, we developed a custom 600 Wh battery that seamlessly integrates into the frame, is lockable, and easily removable for simplified charging. In other words, there's plenty of juice to take you to and from work, a trip to the grocery store, or even to that new café on the other side of the city. If you wish to see exactly how far you can go on a charge, have a look at our Turbo Range Calculator for more exact estimates.

The new wired Turbo Connect Display (TCD-w) is the best way to view data on your Turbo. It not only displays important ride metrics (speed, cadence, rider power, distance, battery level, time, etc.), it also allows you to connect the latest version of the Mission Control App for an enhanced Turbo experience. With our free app for iOS and Android phones, you easily customize motor parameters, control your range, record/upload rides, and perform basic system diagnosis.

And to top off all of the innovative features, we chose a high-end spec with Shimano XT/SLX 11-speed components, four-piston hydraulic disc brakes, an SR SunTour fork with 50mm of travel, integrated front/rear lights, and mounts for fenders and racks. It's ready to take on the town in effortless style.

Sweet

Purchased in 2019. Had an issue with motor not supporting above 17mph. Freemans Bridge in Scotia NY did a great job trouble shooting the issue. Ended up replacing head unit. Only bike I have ever owned that receives compliments and people taking pictures of it. Replaced tires with the ones that came on the 6.0. They look better and I'm always riding in fair weather on pavement. The fenders are well made and actually have spacers for wheel clearance. I removed one at each point to fit the larger tire. Bike is well made with attention to detail. I'm pretty big and over 200lbs. Wanted the better specs as well as motor battery set up. Bike is powerful and can climb. It is heavy. The 4.0 looks good if you are lighter and ride the flats. Speaking of flats....I installed self sealing tubes as I did have a flat. Not an easy task without moving computer and bell to turn upside down. Also upgraded to Brooks Saddle and bar end mirror off Amazon. Drilled out grip end to install plug in handle bar. Purchased Rack Time bag on Amazon. I would recommend this bike for someone who wants to trek long distances without running out of battery. The XT set up is great and the brakes are two piston not four, Price point just dropped. Feel cheated a bit but that's how technology rolls. PS Mission Control. Use it all the time to record my trips. Not to many adjustments you can do but the data is nice. Did use the smart control one time and made it home.

glich

I am still sold on this bike, it's wonderful. However, caveat emptor, after 1100 miles of commuting this summer, something in the motor went bad. It sounded like it decoupled from the drive train and instead of assisting it made a ""shrieking"" sound and added no assist. The protective circuitry would then turn it off. I rode it home in the ""off"" mode. That said, here is the good part. Customer service: over the top. In less than a week Specialized and the shop I bought it from made it all better. They were out of stock of the 1.3 motors so guess what they did? They gave me a brand new one. I only hope this was a fluke and not an inherent flaw. I enjoyed it so much this summer commuting 23 miles round trip with an average speed of 26.5 mph. I have ridden other e-bikes and none that I have been on compare the the Vado 5.0. So I am still a devotee, especially in terms of the customer service I received.

Life Changer

My wife and I have been avid bikers, triathletes etc. I have had hip replacement and a very balky knee. My wife is still in great health. This bike has allowed me to enjoy the long rides that we used to take together. The first ride I took was a 56 mile ride. The bike performed perfectly. It easily held 18 MPH at the first level of assist with a reasonable amount of input from me. We live on Cape Cod so there are not a ton of hills but on the hills we encountered I was able to power up still in level 1 while only using level 2 on a one mile 7% grade. The bike has been great therapy for my hip and it has taken the stress away from my knee so that I can ride without pain. We have 2 Vado's so my wife or children can ride when we want to do a cruise together without sweating like pigs. I mainly ride by my heart rate so I can keep it within my best aerobic zone. The Mission Control App has been great so far but I need to spend a bit more time fully understanding it's capabilities. I think there is a lot that it can do but it has been unnecessary so far. We highly recommend these bikes with virtually no complaints!

Body Geometry.....no joke

Ok. I don't work for Specialized. I am just amazed at this product and feel everyone should know what a wonderful job they have done. They were even nice enough to publish my previous review even with all the grammar and dictation error. My wife who is an English teacher scold me for that. (See below). This additional review is about the ""body geometry"" As I mentioned I previously had a fairly expensive ebike. I had to constantly adjust the seat and handle bar height as I had stiff neck and back after rides. Specially the longer ones. I also had sore wrists and hands due to my arthritis. I guess I was leaning too much on the bar. I am glad to report that I have not made a single adjustment to seat nor handle bar. And I have not had any stiff neck or back. My hands and wrists are not sore either. Whatever they have done to the geometry of the bike WORKS. I am customer for life. The bike looks amazing also.

It's you only better

I just rode my first ride on my new 2019 Vado 5. Upgraded from another ebike to this. Wow. On my other ebike I felt like I was driving a motor (was fairly expensive ebike also). On Vado I really felt like I was the one driving but much more powerful. Quite and very enjoyable. Was able to keep us (with my biker son) and another experience rider. At times I was ahead of them and not even pushing. This really leveled the playing field for me (67 years old). The commercial really says it right....
