The Stumpjumper Alloy brings all-new suspension kinematics and progressive geometry…
We deliver! Just say when and how.
The Stumpjumper Alloy brings all-new suspension kinematics and progressive geometry into a full-alloy package that's both lightweight and extremely durable. Outfitted with a no-fuss SRAM SX 12-speed groupset, the Stumpjumper Alloy is your all-access pass for trail adventure.
THE TRAIL BENCHMARK — When we set out to design the all-new Stumpjumper, we pursued some hefty goals. It had to excel on any kind of trail, for every style of rider. To achieve that, we went after serious weight reduction without sacrificing durability, a stiff, responsive chassis that still rides light and lively, geometry that improves everyone’s riding, and the best suspension kinematics we know how to design. Turns out, you can have your cake and eat it too with the new Stumpjumper.
THE SWEETEST 130MM OF TRAVEL YOU’LL EVER RIDE — We massaged the kinematics of the Stumpjumper suspension to bring out the very best all-round performance possible in a 130mm package. Countless hours of suspension lab development and field testing created a refined mid-travel ripper that eats big terrain like a gravity fed beast, handles like a dream everywhere, and climbs like it has a motor.
PROGRESSIVE GEOMETRY — The S-Sizing geometry of the new Stumpjumper hits the progressive sweet spot. It’s long, low and slack, with a short offset fork and a steeper seat tube angle. These numbers combine to make your ride more stable, more carvealicious, more comfortable climbing, more better everywhere. With FlipChip adjustability you’re able to further fine-tune your fit, ensuring that your new Stumpjumper performs flawlessly on whatever terrain you choose.
RIDER-FIRST ENGINEERED™ — Rider-First Engineered™ frames use a size-specific approach to ride characteristics that ensures benchmark handling and flawless performance, regardless of frame or rider size. Whether you’re a jump-happy grom riding an S1, or a DH-fiend giant in need of the lengthy S6, you’ll experience the same ride traits – rail-sharp cornering and balanced front and rear stiffness – at the lightest-possible weight, And by light, we mean real light: 2,250 grams (S-Works, S-3 size, with rear shock).

I’ve been riding this bike for two years now. It fits me like a glove. I feel more confident and capable on every trail. Best bike I’ve ever owned.
1) The rear derailleur: I have no idea how many times I had to adjust the SRAM SX. This was the first thing that I upgraded. I upgraded to the SRAM GX. However, if you get it tuned just right, it works like a dream. (My friends have the same derailleur on their bike, and for them its working fine, but for me it just was not). 2) The rear shock: Due to the bike having an asymmetrical frame, the rear shock, the X-FUSION Pro RL, is under load unevenly. In short, the seals might burst or break over time. For me, the dust seal got worn out and the shock was leaking oil and loosing air pressure (which is odd). An expert told me that these X-FUSION shocks are prone to that. This happened only 1 and a half months in to riding the bike. I upgraded to the Rockshox Deluxe Ultimate. Other than that, there are not much other things to point out. Everything else is great.
I would give this 5 stars but the Sram Eagle SX components let it down too much. After a ride or two, you end up fiddling with the shifting. I love the bike and the frame is worthy of upgrades. Upgrades so far: Hunt Trail Wide Wheelset SX Dub Crank GX Eagle cassette, chain and derailleur GX Grip Shift PNW Range bar X-Fusion Slide 34 Boost 140 mm fork
When I purchased the stump-jumper I determined that one step up in components (comp) may not suffice, so I decided to buy the base version and upgrade components as they sploded. I can say it's a great bike, but I don't think bike shop manufacturers should sell bicycles with SX group-sets. It's like it has to be just perfectly adjusted to shift right. Eventually I will upgrade the wheels, group-set, and rear shock. At that point, I think it will be quite the stump-jumper, because I like everything else about the bike.
Really good bike but the derailur might be a problem when first getting it but after a little bit the derailur will be dialed overall really good big for jumps and downhill
Ive had my bike for 1 year now and the entry level parts are not great ive had issues with my front break where it moves into the bar and ive taken it to the shop and the leaver bushings are worn out and connot be replaced. And the sram sx eagle deraileur is great after a service but the clutch looses tightness and the bolt strips easily. But its a great bike other the issues of it, the forks and shock has held up of lots of use and i recommend a rebulid every year when needed, Other than that great starter dual sus bike
I've had my bike for a year now and I think that the specs regarding the entry-level is way to bad. I have had major trouble with the back breaks and needing to bleed them on a regular basis. Not happy at all! Regarding the gears, I feel that I had alot less trouble with the bikes that have a Shimano system. So lately the bike has been more in the garage than on the trails. I guess it is learning money, but really takes the edge of riding the bike.
This bike is 37 lbs stock in size s3 and size s4
I ride it all the time and it has been amazing.
Everything about this bike is quality, excellent ride, great balance, responsive just what’s needed on a trail today and as for the price point it can’t be beaten
I've had my stumpy alloy for a month and have had the bike out 10 days. Pros: solid components for the price. Really comfortable on down hill and rolling single track. It's handsome, it's has a dropper post (this is not that common for price point) easy to lock out both front and rear suspension. Travel on both shocks is pretty goldilocks for an average rider Con: the bike is a bit overweight. mine weighs in between 34 and 35 lbs. This is fairly noticeable on long climbs. I'm coming over from a really light hardtail so hoping I get used to it. Conclusion: it's one of the best values in this price range. I picked mine up for 2100 on sale
I love this bike and it is my favourite bike put of all the bikes i have had. The only problem I have had with it is the Sram SX groupset because it is not accurate. But overall I love this bike! Would recommend!
The bike is very strong such as the wheels withstand lots of abuse and don’t have a single dent or buckle. The trues are very grippy. The handle grips wear out fast and the bike is quite heavy which makes it more reliable. Would recommend going tubeless but the bike is already set up to do that. It is fun riding but have had some problems with the rear shock losing air. Overall it is great value.
Coming from a 1990 Martin IFT with manitou 4’s for the old folk out there!! I can say this is a starship in comparison on our local jump/Dh track & trails. The tech and build quality is simply stand out, as expected, and not disappointed with everything. Great bike for anyone at any level and a cost that is affordable for many, not a few.
I’m coming from an Ibis HD 5, I upgraded brakes and suspension but honestly this bike is great, can’t recommend it enough. Pops off of jumps and climbs great. I personally feel for trail riding and some gnarly trail riding that 130-140 travel is the real sweet spot for 90%+ of riders. Buy one and enjoy! Save your money instead of paying insane amount for S-works, don’t need it.
Very smooth riding bike. Quality ride and style. Very happy.
I've been hanging on to my 2008 specialized comp mtn bike since new. It finally got to the point where the cost of repairs exceeded the value. So I bought a new one. I hate to say it but yet the technology has changed tremendously since 08. Mountains and trails that I struggled to climb before have become much easier. The brakes are fantastic, the suspension is plush and the smile is wide.
I cannot think of a better way to spend 2 grand. Just took this thing out for a proper rip today had to stop half way down the trail to freak out for a second. Just boosts off everything and keeps you planted. Could not recommend it more. I’ve ridden carbon stumpys and ones worth thousands more and it’s just not that much different. This is what you need!
First duel suspension I have had since my hardtail and it is the best bike out on the market for its great price compared to other bikes. The brakes could be better although they are great but they are great brakes for the price.
The stumpjumper alloy is a great bike! Only issues I had was on my second ride the crank arm and pedal fell off, must have got sent from the factory slightly out off torque. But I would not hold that against the fun I get out of the bike! 100% recommend!!
I would only recommend this product
👍
Overall, a very good bike. I would recommend for those casual mountain bikers like me. Now, if you like to do your own cable replacements instead of taking the bike to the shop, do NOT go for it. I had to change shifter and dropping post housing (cables). Is an absolute pain... you have to disassembled almost the whole bike to change one of those cables. Want to change the dropped post cable? Need to get rid of the bottom bracket. Need to change the shift housing? Need to disarm the suspension system. LOT of work and special tools needed for a simple job that shouldn't take longer tan 15 mins or 30 mins top.
Best bike I have ever owned. I had the comp but it was stolen. I had to get the base model alloy stumpjumper but I really love it. I switched pedals out and the crank but it is an amazing bike stock. Definitely would buy again.
Amazing bike. Very comfortable and solid. My terrain is very bumpy now with lots of unexpected holes after lots of rains. No problem at all. Very nice climber. I guess thanks to well-thought geometry. All hills very re-concurred one more time. Solid maneuverability on very muddy and slippery parts of route. Fork is rockshox silver. Simply great and enough to enjoy ride. I had lower expectations but in reality it’s way better. Rear shock is great as well. After 2 hours of ride still sense of bottomless like you are driving car with comfortable seat. Handling and cornering is very, very good. I really was impressed. Upgrade brakes to 4 piston right away if you more than 180 pounds. Any other upgrade can wait. I wish to have that as an option. Overall bike is outstanding. I’m very happy with purchase and definitely would recommend it
Overall this bike has performed very well. I love the SRAM GX system. Shifting is crisp and smooth. Pedaling is very efficient and feels light. The SWAT system is pretty great for holding a tube, and various tools to replace a flat or something. So far the suspension has been great as well. The Float X is definitely my favorite Fox shock, so I love that it is the Float X and not DPX2 or X2. The one thing I would advise is to replace the factory downtube protector and to keep it in the HIGH flip chip setting. There are a LOT of reports of frame damage to the downtube under the protector. I personally havent had any and Ive ridden Palo Duro and Bentonville. I also rode Angel Fire on a borrowed Stumpy Evo last year and no problems. But they do exist, so I would advise to use caution. Overall the bike is amazing in all other aspects. Just be aware of the potential for problems.
Exceeds expectations! Has a lot of potential for progressing rider. The only thing i do not like is that there are very limited options for rear shock upgrades.
Been mountain biking for a year now, love it I used to ride a mongoose full sus when I started but now that I got this one I see how fun mountain Biking really is.
The bike has been great so far. I use it to ride the mountain trails wife my wife.
Specialized made a bike capable of all purposes with a few small mods. It’s a great bike
I’m 58, 6’1” 180 lbs and purchased the S4 version of this bike. Tried the S5 but it just felt too big for me. I’ve ridden it now for almost a year mostly on local single track. I can honestly say that at my age the Stumpjumper has transformed my off road experience. The suspension is very supple and easy to adjust and the brakes have great stopping power and have worked just fine for me. The only issue I had with this bike was the rear derailleur which wasn’t very precise and skipped back and forth between gears a lot no matter how it was adjusted. Being a cheaper derailleur this wasn’t unexpected. I replaced it with a SRAM GX and those issues are gone. That is the only upgrade I would recommend out of the box. Everything else has been fine and I would highly recommend this bike to anyone on a tighter budget who still wants a high quality bike. I would certainly make this purchase again. Loving this bike.
This mountain bike handles great, nimble, balanced, it's my 3rd full suspension 29'er, ride mostly on hard packed roads & gravel trails, i would recommend , as i have'nt had any issues/problems
good on jumps, roots, drops, and down hill, but at the same time equally good at climbing hills
While I really liked the Camber the “slacker” head tube angle and 29r vs 27.5r tired size make it “easier” and funner for an older (58+) rider like me. While I keep my tires on the ground I still like to fly on the trails!
I moved to a dual suspension after riding hard tails for years, I had no idea what I was missing out on. When I get on this thing it behaves just like a dirtbike. Soakes up everything on the trail and just rips downhill. I love the adjustable seat which enables you to extend fully to sit while climbing hills and still drop way down to shred downhill. I would definitely recommend.
The stumpjumper is the bike you should by for your first beginner full suspension I have raced Enduro and Xc on this beast and it to all of the hits now one thing is the tires but that won’t remove a star because I just don’t live in the right area for the tires. Now should I be using the bike fork and shock really hard like I did probably not and I destroyed both my fork and my shock but that is from torture testing this thing highly suggest buying this bike it is good affordable and reliable.
I am coming from an older mid-tier hardtail but with that in mind I am totally pleased with my decision to go with the Stumpjumper Alloy. I was originally looking at the Comp Alloy but my size was not available online or at my LBS's. It is important to note that while this is the lowest spec Stumpy there is nothing about this bike that feels low spec. Perhaps my LBS set the bike up great but so far I have no complaints about the brakes or the suspension, everything feels as I would expect from a $2,800 bike. I am sure the Fox suspension and brakes on the higher spec models feel better but there is nothing wrong with the way this bike sits. I did replace the rear derailleur out of the box to a GX but for $150 spent I am still well away from the additional $1,200 saved. Unless you already have a base Stumpy save some coin, get this and make it your own while you own it.
This bike is phenomenal. Ticks all the boxes. I'm so pumped!
Great entry level full suspension trail bike at a pretty great price
Great entry-level bike for those newer to the trails
Prior to owning this bike, I rode a $500ish hardtail into the ground on single track trails. I smiled the whole trail the first time I rode the stumpjumper. While people will complain about the brakes and suspension, this is all relative to what you're coming from. Sure, down the road I may want to upgrade, but if you are like me and coming from a very budget entry level hardtail, you will be very happy with your purchase. While I'm sure the comp has better components, I didn't come from using high-end components, so the x-fusion rear shock and rockshox fork are a blessing for me. Hope this helps!
Do your pre-ride checks and this bike will hold up very well.
Been riding the Spec SJ Alloy base model for a few months now. Its frame is a bit heavy, very solid and strong, modern feature-rich, aggressive geo and very deft, very smooth handling on DH/XC trail riding. As the base model, some components are wanting. Upgraded the derail/shifter to GX Eagle for 180, worth it. Later upgrading the suspension for about 1k (wait for a good fork / rear shock on sale) and this beast will be fully decked out. Brakes are fine but could use an upgrade later. Overall the frame is awesome. Applied full frame protection ride wrap to guard against and scratches or nicks in the paint. Looks amazing, handles buttery smooth on rough descents. Cant recommend this bike enough if you are ok with upgrading over time. Happy to be riding a very refined full susp bike, a Specialized.
Solid bike for entry level and with upgrades lot more. Frame is good one, geometry is up to date and is worth upgrading. I ride various terrain with rocks, roots with technical ups and downs. Geometry work great when going up at traction by these tyres provides a good downhill elements as well. Suspension takes some mind to fit good. It's not possible to get it work perfectly since entry level parts. Brakes will stop you eventually but would not rely on them in most challenging situations so consider upgrading them first. The sx drivetrain is also worth of upgrading since it performers not as expected when needed. Bottom bracket says "xc only. Not for dh or jumping" so I guess this bike is made for xc for first timers.
Great baseline model.
I've had my bike for about 3 months and I've rode it a TON. However after doing a bit more research it does seem to have some cheap components. The rear shock, fork and brakes being the cheaper options. If I could do it again I'd definitely save up and opt for the comp or another bike entirely. I plan to do some serious upgrades, but for the price I'm definitely going to "lose" about $1,000 or so. I'm having a blast with it but can't help but have some buyers remorse
I bought my Stumpy Alloy in February, 2021, and have ridden it about 80 times. Good: - The frame on this bike is excellent. - I like the tires, and they have held up well. -The flat black looks great. - I've had no problems with the suspension. Bad: -The brakes on my bike never felt very powerful, and stopped working within a few months -The drivetrain shifts slowly and inaccurately - This is a heavy bike. I think you could do a lot worse, and the frame is definitely good enough to justify upgrading components. That said, if I had it to do over again, I would spend the extra money for a Stumpjumper Comp Alloy. While the $1000 price difference is significant, I had to spend half that much on my new brakes alone. The upgraded brakes, fork, shock, and drivetrain are definitely worth the cost, the bike will weigh less and work better from day one.
Bike came quick. Store setup someday. Nice bike.
Loads of information at fingertips to make the right decision for me to go with specialized.
Had it for a while now does great on jumps drops roots rocks pretty much everything great all around bike for the person looking for a cheaper full suspension if I was to rate it a 1 out 0f 10 it would be a 💯
I bought this bike because I was looking to get into mountain biking when I wasn't racing racing motorcross. I am not your average rider and I was afraid I'd break any bike I got but didn't want to spend alot of money. This bike was perfect though. The suspension is perfect, tires have great tread on them so I can corner without sliding out. This bike is amazing. I highly recommend the Stumpjumper
Great all-around bike- downhill, trail, it takes me everywhere. Highly recommend
Although this bike may not have as high quality parts as more expensive options, it still shreds trails like a beast and it is easily upgradeable. Just purchased it 3 weeks ago and I've been enjoying it ever since. Oh, and its really, really great for jumping stumps.
My first full suspension mtb. Very happy with my choice going with specialized, and knowing it has decent parts that will grow with me as I progress my skills for the years to come.
Great bike for the money. It has everything I need.
The bike has great geo and is a good trail bike platform to build on. That being said every part on the bike besides preferential parts (grips, bars, stem) is not worth hanging onto and you can likely save money and headache by saving for the model up from this. The fork is OK and the tires are nice. The brakes are near hazardously bad and the rear shock is barely working after a year and a half of use.
Drivetrain needs to be improved. My derailleur is a headache and hasn’t been able to make smooth shifts at all. The bike rips though and is a blast on the downhill flow. Plan on upgrading a lot of components though.
Dont listen to what everyone says about this bike. This bike is the best value and is so much fun to ride. 10/10
Built up my idea of a Swiss Army knife. Started with a Stump alloy, added a Pike, bigger rear brake, and a GX groupset. Kept the rear shock and everything else stock. She Bangs. Nimble and spry enough for local trails and parks, but has enough forgiveness to eat up the DH mountains I ride and leave me with a wicked grin. If you want some seriously strong and versatile DNA in your steed; you’ve arrived.
I went crazy looking up all the reviews and weighing specs, hard tail vs full suspension, etc. I probably bothered every local bike shop for their opinion at least once. I am SO GLAD I chose the Stumpjumper Alloy. To a beginner with an aging road bike, the specs were WAY BETTER than everyone suggests online. The brakes are powerful. The shifting is crisp and responsive. The shocks are spongy. Admittedly, I am not pushing this bike to its limit nor am I riding difficult terrain here in Northern Virginia. But it blows away the Trek Marlin I hopped on last summer in every way. For a newbie who wanted something that he won’t even begin to push to its limit anytime soon, this bike is perfect. Don’t go crazy getting sucked into the online chatter about bikes and upgrades. This one is really good and a blast to ride. There is nothing about the bike that feels “weak” to a newer rider.
Bike is way too heavy and breaks are not what you would expect for $3k bike. Drive train is ok for what you pay for. Overall the bike is good for trails.
The bike is great, rides very well and is alot of fun. But the front fork is sticky in the first part of the travel. Also the sx group set is ok but I ended up buying gx shifter and derailer for mine just to make the shifting better.
I love my stumjumper alloy is amaizing
Super fun ride, amazing posture, I spend all day on the bike and don't get tired. And at the end of the day it's beautiful to admire.
So much to love, and one thing to hate. Overall this is a great entry into mountain biking. The frame and suspension are excellent for the cost and the wheels and tires a totally solid. It's a super fun bike on a wide array of terrain and trail styles. All that said, the reason a bike this could can cost so little is the cost savings on the drivetrain. The SRAM SX series is notoriously ho-hum, and from day 1 this system has been a headache needing constant attention and adjusting. To be specific, the derailleur is the problem. A day with ample technical downhill will ensure indexing issues, so just be ready to adjust as necessary. So I would recommend this product. But just be aware that a derailleur upgrade may be in your future, and will totally take this bike to the next level for you.
As a novice to the sport of mountain biking, I couldn't ask for a better bit of kit. I accept that those really hitting the downhills hard might find the rear suspension a little too basic, but for my needs the capability of the bike well exceeds that of the rider. The ability to upgrade over time is built in, so it's a great starting point to improve the gear as your skills are honed, but I can honestly say that the first month of hitting the trails - some narly blue ones too - has hooked me. In no small part due to the kit under me. Highly recommended!
overall I really like the stumpjumper, it was everything i was looking for. The bike runs really smooth down the trails and the suspension just soaked up the bumps so well
The bike was everything I was looking for. Specialized was surprisingly quick getting it to me which made the entire experience that much better.
I’ve truly enjoyed the ride so far, and I’m active on it daily. She’s surprisingly nimble and effective given her price point. A true value in full suspension mountain bikes. Tons of fun.
Love my new stumpjumper mountain bike I'm taking my time and getting to know it well thanks.
Great bike for the money. The Rockshox 35 fork is sturdy and handles jumps/drops well. The X-fusion rear shock isn’t the best on the market, but it has held up to some serious punishment on the trail. This bike climbs well and charges down rough descents like a beast.
Look no further if you are looking for a phenomenal MTB to grow your riding and future mechanical skills. With so many different brands producing trail bikes, and with so many different people telling you to look elsewhere, there is no better platform to build and ride your perfect bike than the Stumpjumper. The geometry creates a very fun, fast, and surprisingly comfortable ride. Whether you are climbing or descending, this bike can take you wherever you dare to go. Some people have had issues with the components that come with this bike, but I have not had any issues in my first 100 miles. You shouldn't have any issues with the brakes, drivetrain, or dropper as long as you ride safely and have some mechanical sympathy. My LBS is a Specialized dealer, and they were incredibly helpful in determining which sized bike would be best for me. I fell between an S4 and S5, and I had a chance to test ride each size multiple times to see which fit best. If you have the opportunity to test ride, I highly recommend it! I did order my bike from Specialized and had it shipped to my LBS, and the delivery was extremely fast, especially given everything going on with shipping and supply chains. The bike has been incredible, and Specialized's service has been just as good.
Great bike and solid build. A little on the heavy side but running tubeless and swapping out a few parts should sort the weight issue. I did have a part of the bike fall off on my first ride but i contacted specialized and wow what great customer service. Keep it up folks :)
This bike has elevated my trail riding to new levels. The handling is great feels incredibly stable at speed over the chunkiest of gardens. I'm pumped for a great season on this bike!
Got the Stumpjumper Alloy. Great full-suspension mountain bike. I added a mudguard to the front because the tires really kick up the gravel. The 29-inch wheels handle the trail well. Front fork angle feels a little aggressive with the 29s, so steering took some time to get used to. Overall, feels like a solid quality bike that will withstand years of deep wilderness riding. Love the dropper post. The shipping was fast. Had it delivered to a local bike shop. They assembled it the day it arrived and I picked it up the following day.
I have had this bike for a total of 4 days. My XC hard tail that cost 1/4 of the price of this bike has had less problems than the 2021 stumpjumper alloy, mind you I have had the cheap hard tail for much longer and have taken it on the exact same trails and many more, so I do not believe it is user error. The scram sx eagle group set is very disappointing to say the least has been a headache since I got the bike. I wouldn't recommended spending your hard earned money on the base model stumpjumper as I’m very disappointed in this purchase I have made, wish I would have bought a nicer version of this bike with the upgraded parts.
It is a solid product. Perhaps slightly overweight for me in the Alloy version. I am going to replace the chainring with a 34T cause for me 30&T is too small. I think it would be perfect with 2.2 wide wheels instead of 2.3 too
Great design, and loving it after a couple rides!
I love it. Just a bit heavy and you can’t find info on weight online. But it rides up and down hills easy. The 29 wheels are amazing over obstacles. Big improvement over my 26 full suspension.
This bike is hands down the best bike I’ve ridden. It’s practically indestructible and very comfortable and cabal.
I bought this bike about 6 months ago. is comfortable to ride, I am able to do many climbs that look impossible, great control downhill, love the tires the grip gives you the stability on turns. Jumping I need to practice more I have don small jumps and the bike feels steady and strong.
owned right at a year now and absolutely love it their are a few things that i don't love : the brakes they work but the levers are long and they just don't have the stopping power this bike needs, the saddle is not even close to comfortable so bad its actually the only thing I've changed so far, and the drivetrain..sx eagle is garbage doesn't hold adjustment, derailleur is mostly plastic ...bad enough i am seriously considering throwing the nx 11 speed off my old bike on it because i never had issues out of it at all
After riding this stumpy for about 7 months, I have realized this is the best bike out for anyone. After 7 months I've chased crumbs like never before and am able to capture all of the gingerbread. Shout out Ben Weinberger for helping me chase crumbs and getting his own stumpy himself. Bofa.
I have had this bike for almost a year now. I am having a ton of fun on this bike. It is a very capable bike for the terrain that I ride. My only issues with this bike is the SRAM SX rear derailleur and x fusion rear shock are not that great. I will be upgrading these as soon as the parts become available. It also seems like the paint job is beginning to fade. But overall this is a good bike.
Great first time Dually Pros- Looks good, feels good to ride, easy to clean, seat is super comfy, great tyres and wheel. Cons- Breaks needs to be upgraded, the Back shock has a terrible lockout as mentioned first dual shock i've owned, i learned all the cons as i become more experienced.
Haven't had much time to ride yet, but what little i have been able to this is an awesome bike for a second year older rider.
Let me start by saying that the 2021 Stumpjumper Alloy is my first full-suspension coming from riding 27.5 hardtails over the past three years. Before purchasing this bike from the shop, I was honestly iffy about moving to a 29er. I am 5'8, and my 27.5 hardtails are all size mediums, so when I purchased this Stumpjumper, I decided to size down to S2, equivalent to a size small. If you are like me and are iffy about moving from 27.5 to 29-inch wheels, rest assured, this bike is nice and poppy, playful, and is very capable. In terms of riding, the bike itself is slightly heavy, but it didn't take that long for me to get used to when climbing. When going downhill, the bike can honestly do anything. It roll's wonderfully over chunks and it can pick up some serious speed on flow trails. Although, it lost a star for me because the rims and rear shock could have been better. Just a few months in and I already found a dent in the rear wheel and the shock is honestly not the best.
First Dualy after years of hard tails and im loving it. Handles really well and feels solid yet nimble enough which is giving me the confidence to try some more technical tracks and sections. After alot of research im glad i decided on the stumpy im very happy with my purchase and highly recommend it as a great all rounder dualy to have loads of fun on. Paint chipped on my first ride from a stone flicking up but i had already ordered a dyed bros frame protection kit which covered where it chipped, a bit bummed it chipped so easily. There is potential for easy upgrades on components if you feel the need but honestly 200kms in and i wont be changing anything anytime soon.... wicked bike
Second specialized stumpjumper that I own, and so far handle very well ,easy to climb up hill, brakes very good, great tires, the only thing I upgraded was the grips. I recommend this bike, great for the price!!!
The Bike is awesome, took it too bike park and it performed great! I do think they could have put some better parts on it from factory such as brakes and a better rear shock. It performs amazingly on jump lines, hard pack, and bumpy enduro tracks. All around a great bike for any type of riding.
Most of my impressions of this bike are on relatively mild hardpack trails with some steep chutes and jumplines mixed in. In these conditions, the bike handles surprisingly well. Even in steep stuff I rarely felt that the brakes didn't have enough power and the modern geo meant so it didn't feel like I didn't have a big enough bike for the terrain. The SRAM SX does it's job well enough given you avoid shifting under load. The bike climbs about as expected, though it could stand to shed a little weight. The main issues with this bike definitely come from the suspension. The fork handles rough terrain pretty well but the lack of compression adjustability left some to be desired. The shock was a shock. I'd really consider replacing it but for now it's better than a hardtail.
First full suspension coming from a hard tail. Bike handles well after adding a shorter stem. Components are decent and haven’t failed me yet. I’m not sure why I’ve read negative reviews about the rear shock. Works fine for me. I’m no professional DH rider, but I hit some drops and jumps with no problems. I think folks just always want the higher end stuff and really don’t need it. Have someone help you setup your suspension and I’m sure you’ll be fine. I will say the bike is a tad heavy. You don’t feel it going downhill, but a smidge on the way up. Overall, I’m happy with it. It’s in my budget and the geometry is perfect for me on the S3 (5’10). We’ll probably upgrade wheels and BB/cranks to shave some weight later. Rcking
This is a super fun bike, really love it but what i dont like about this bike is the poor paint job. paint comes off so easily. A little rock can chip the paint very very easily. Wish there was a better paint job on it.
This bike is a *huge* amount of fun to ride; the geometry is perfect and the adjustable frame is a very useful bonus. It's comfortable uphill and down, and tears up dry rocky descents. It is, however, best suited to people who don't mind making upgrades over time. The Tektro brakes, rear shock and hefty powerspline crankset do the job, but that's about all you can say in their favour. (The tyres are also great on stony slopes but terrible if you ride a lot in the mud.) If you don't mind buying add-ons, this bike is a good choice. Although at 8 months and two major upgrades in, I am wondering if I should have took a loan and gone for the comp.
I love almost everything about this bike. Great geometry, great control, fun to use, easy climbs, fun downhill. The rear shock is terrible though. It was the first thing I replaced.
This lower priced stumpjumper has been kicking butt! Climbs well and incredibly fun. Iv put this pike through hell and back. It's relentless, plus it can handle just about any upgrade. I bought this bike to grow with and every step of the way has been awesome! Thank you Specialized for creating an other epic!
I love the bike, but you have to allow for upgrades. Sx derailleur is crap unless you just want to ride on pathways. Shock died after a year and cassette lost 4 teeth in only a few months ( replaced under warranty thankfully) and I have broken numerous spokes. I am not a jumper as I'm too old for that now, I just like technical trails. It is well suited once you upgrade everything. I now have fox 34 forks, GX drivetrain( nx cassette due to HG hub) and sidluxe rear shock. NOW I'm loving it. I suggest starting no lower than the comp alloy or you might be disappointed with performance.
