I can't break it

The SJ is an incredibly versatile, adjustable and sturdy bike that's really opened up playing on the trail for me. That's as opposed to laying down as much speed as possible and aiming to merely survive the downhill, rooty pinball sections. My favorite use case is a long day of old school hardwoods singletrack. An absolute Cadillac on days like that. That said, firming everything up to hammer on more low key stuff is as easy as flicking switches on the fork and shock. The biggest adjustment has been how the bike rides kind of centered/weighted on the front wheel compared to the riding the rear wheel vibe of bikes I'm used to with slacker seat angles. This is in the High BB setting.

Great except hubs

Bought last year, and bike is awesome. I did purchase in offseason a bunch of XX1 and XO1 upgrades however did not realize the rear hub is Shimano HG driver so not compatible with XO1 cassette without rebuilding wheel. Not really happy the tech specs listed on this page leaves out that on the hub descriptions. Otherwise bike is great, well balanced, climbs solid, and floats; I’ll just rebuild wheels after this season so I can take full advantage of other upgrades. Weight wise I’m not missing carbon frame, it’s not terribly noticeable unless you’re doing a lot of climbing.

Great Bike for the price point

This is my first full suspension and it's been fantastic for the price. I've done about 70% single track / technical trails in Virginia and taken it on the downhill trails at Bryce resort a handful of times and it handles it with no problem. I am 6'1, 220lbs and it's a beast for anything I've thrown at it. I did have to replace and upgrade the rear derailleur and rotor after they got mangled together and unsure how. This is the S4 size. Upgrading the handlebars and stem as first upgrade as the handle bars bent in an OTB crash recently.

Stumpy Love... and Maintenance

This bike is a work horse. Loves fast descents and hard climbs. Beautiful geometry and structurally sound. That being said pivot bearings dried out quickly and bottom bracket bearings (SRAM DUB, BSA 73mm, threaded) gave out halfway through second season. The bike was creaking more than my 92-year-old-arthritic-grandfather! Big oversight on Specialized's part, when I discovered a missing washer between the rear shock connection and linkage arm. Specialized's awesome warranty covered this however. Love this bike.

The perfect "not-beginner" bike

I started out on a hardtail rockhopper pro evo from 2016, great bike but wanted to try full sus. Jumped on a direct-to-consumer brand bike that was very entry level - Rockshox recon, base shimano 12-speed 1x drivetrain, and a basic dropper post. It was okay, but I wanted something that I could really grow into, get great performance out of, had a real manufacturers warranty with brick & mortar locations, and most of all was better spec'd. The comp alloy was the best of both worlds, not as expensive as carbon bikes, but still has a surprisingly light alloy frame with what I consider to be a great fork. Wish it had GX at this price range, but other than that I love the bike. Maxxis tires and you're gtg.
