Built Like a Tank, but narrow sizing and the heels need some fiddling

Upsides: soles are amazingly sturdy and sticky: I won't hurt my feet on rocks. And uppers will deflect any rock, branch, pedal or other threat that might even think about coming my way. Downside: fit. These days, most shoes have contours: wider in front, tapered at the back. But these shoes are a near-perfect 19th century oval: a little too narrow in front, loose at the heel. And if you put in some insoles to increase the arch and make them fit better... now the closures hit my ankle bone in a weird way, which I didn't realize until I started riding. If you're straight and skinny (like many cyclists seem to be), they may work well for you. But if you have any curves, I'd look at other options. Also, soft ankle pad joins to firm lower body in a way that causes it to fold over and get stuck when putting it on. I have to stick my finger in at the heel and straighten it out every time. Overall, at sale price of fifty bucks, they're a steal. But need a refit to serve the mesomorphic.

A little clowny, but functional

Really grippy shoes - stickiest I’ve ever worn. They’re also very supportive and protective. But they look like you have them on the wrong feet! The left looks like it should be on the right and visa versa. They also run small.

Great mountain bike shoe

The shoes are true to size. I followed the sizing instructions on the website. The fit is perfect. I've worn them in the rain (PNW rain). My feet stayed dry. The outside dried off fast. The shoes are the right amount of sticky and the toe protection is great. I'm really liking these shoes.

Better performance / $ than Five Ten

Sizing is true to size if you already know your Specialized shoe size. If not, go to a store that sells them and find out your size. The soles aren’t as sticky/grippy as Five Ten Stealth - maybe 7.5-8/10 if Stealth is a 10. I’ve tried these 2FOs on Deity Deftraps and Wolf Tooth Waveforms. The 2FOs sole stiffness is better than Freerider Pros but I haven’t had them long enough to see if they’ll remain stiff. I’m about 200lb / 91kg and I can climb and descend for longer without foot pain despite less absolute traction. Walking traction doesn’t seem quite as good. Downhill performance is close to perfect. Toe box protection, insole, and lacing is better than Freerider Pros but because of the less absolute grip from the soles, I have noticed some foot hopping on super rough trails. Regular trail riding is great. Waterproofing is unknown but they don’t get sweaty easily. Overall, on sale, these are the best $/performance flat pedal shoes I have tried and would buy again.

Solid and Stiky!

Ski Boots, ever where them? They serve one purpose, to keep your feet attached to the ski. Why am I mentioning this? Because these shoes offer the ultimate in protection. Once you put them on, you will feel the connection to your bike. Ultimate sticky pedals, solid steel toe. There is so much more. So grab a pair and start skiing! I mean mountain biking! Use the shoes for the ultimate flat grip with Specialized 2FO DH Flat Mountain Bike Shoes. It's a win-win!

Straight out of the box...

Straight out of the box and from sliding the first shoe on the fit was perfect, instantly felt comfortable and the sticky sound as I walked around the house as they tried to cling to the floor was crazy! I am yet to ride in them, but as I just said to a friend I've never had an instant connection to a pair of riding shoes, these feel great! If you are on this page you've just found your next set of riding shoes - don't hesitate, just buy them!

Uppers quite stiff

I bought these to work with platform pedals, primarily because the flat sole promised good grip. The uppers are extremely stiff making the shoe difficult to put on/take off. But quality of materials and build is excellent. Decided to change pedals on the bike and returned these flats for the same pair with cleats (red sole). Same problem with stiffness of the synthetic uppers but, otherwise, I quite like the shoe for its intended use. Would be better with BOA closures.

clunky and awkward, perhaps not compatible with all riding styles.

I ride a stumpjumper expert on mostly blue and black diamond trails around Arizona...lots of flow, lots of chunk, lots of rocky trails climbing and DH. I ride Deity flat pedals, which are incredibly grippy. These shoes are not compatible with the pedals or the terrain I ride. They are too rigid and inflexible, and "blocky". Foot slips off pedal a lot, toe scrapes the ground frequently and they are not very forgiving. Perhaps they'd work better in a pure DH environment. unfortunately, i missed the return window, so I'm stuck with them. The stumpjumper on the other hand is an amazing bike!

Grippy and stiffy

The soles seem at least as grippy as my usual flat shoes, and I prefer how these let less water in, and dry out super quick. Also like the stiff toe box area to protect the toes from rocks strikes. Cannot comment on longevity as of yet but so far so good!

These are really great shoes! It's the first pair of shoes that I've found match the grip of the benchmark flat pedal shoes (you know who that is). A comfortable shoe that is built to last

Build quality of this shoes is top notch. The toe bumper is substantial yet unobtrusive. The sole is stiff, but nothing like a carbon sole XC shoe. The materials all make sense from the grippy rubber outsole, to the perforated insole. The lacing comes down far enough to secure your whole foot including the toe box. The cleat pocket is also long enough to run cleats farther back. Worn in a variety of temperature and never noticed being too hot or cold. I wear these with Shimano Saint SPDs and the interface allows for movement with some detectable resistance. For how I like to ride this is the perfect pedal feel. I slot exactly between sizes and after trying both went with the larger size. These are a great complement to the recon 3.0s if you ride a variety of styles.

The rubber feels as sticky

The rubber feels as sticky and soft as the New freerider pros from 5ten but the 5tens do not have as firm as a sole anymore. For downhill I wanted a stiff shoe with lots of armor. This shoe seems to do armor better as well.. it runs smaller than your normal snows but almost true to size for most MTB shoes.

an impressive flat shoe

i've had these for a couple months, all winter riding, often quite . as mentioned the outsole is incredible. i've had a number of 5.10's and these are as sticky or more with a firmer overall feel. the midsole has more structure than some shoes in a good way. the upper fabric is quite stiff. mostly this is fine, and i suspect they will break in more, especially as it gets sweaty out. minor gripes; i find the tongue a bit short, the laces a bit short. it's a fine line IMO with performance shoes, balancing comfort and riding performance. yes as mentioned these are a bit stiff, the materials a bit firm, but over a long ride, especially a damp one, there is something to be said for this kind of shoe in that it delivers a lot of support. i prefer a high end footbed and quality socks will go a long way to aiding comfort. i suspect these will be durable and soften up a bit, but time will tell.

Almost too sticky...

From the first time I put my feet on the pedals they stayed in place. Was use to easily being able to move my feet around. Not anymore... they stick to the pedals so good I can pedal like I have cleats on. It's really helped on my pedaling going up hill. NEVER again will my feet slip off the pedals!!!

Best flat shoe out there, but could be a little better!

Good: These shoes should get five stars for the outsole alone. I have ridden flat shoes from basically every major brand, and these have the best grip, hands down. They are also responsively stiff, and the rubber wears extremely well. The fit guide is accurate, so trust it. Could be better: The tongue needs to be taller (it digs into the front of your foot), a lace cover would be nice for better security, and the shoe needs an ANKLE GAITER! I am constantly getting rocks and trail debris caught between my foot and the shoe collar. Not perfect overall, but I'll take the small shortcomings for this amazing rubber! These are still the best flat shoes I've owned to date.

Awesome shoes

I'm a female rider, and I'd worn Specialized clipless shoes for years. They were always comfortable and very durable. When I made the switch to flats some years ago, I went to Five Tens for their incredible grip. When I saw that Specialized was making a flat shoe, I had to try them, since the Five Tens fit wasn't perfect for my particular feet. I was super happy with the switch, since these fit great! I've worn a 39 in Specialized shoes my whole riding life, and that hasn't changed — meanwhile, Five Ten keeps changing their sizing - do I now fit in a 38 2/3 or 39 1/3??? and what the heck are those sizes? and even those doesn't seem consistent across all their shoes. With the Specialized shoe, the best part is the grip, which is fantastic; no loss that I can perceive compared to the Five Tens. Locked and loaded! Also, the sole is a bit stiffer, which is a welcome improvement - but not so stiff that you can't conform your foot to the pedal as needed. Great shoe, I'm a fan. I fully expect these to last several seasons, just like my old clipless shoes did. My only complaint is that I have the previous iteration of the shoe shown here, and it isn't winning any beauty contests, ha ha. :D But the performance is so excellent, I don't care. Plus the varus correction works well for my anatomy, so I am super pleased to be back in Specialized shoes.

Good 'n Sticky, Comfortable with Insole Update

After trying and returning a pair of 510 Trailcross' for being too narrow, these came up and I'm very pleased with the fit. They grip the pedals extremely well, fit me true to size (47 for US size 13) and are very comfortable. I didn't find them overly wide, but just a *hair wider* than 'normal' shoes (to me these fit like Keen's hiking shoes in the toe box). The only improvement I recommend is to replace the stock insoles (which is not unusual, I do this on nearly all shoes because mfr's skimp on this). With new insoles for a little more arch support and more padding to help fill up some of the roominess, these are now a 10.

The sole has solid support unlike the Giro Riddance II. I give it a 4 star only because they look like my grand dads shoes. 43 fits like a 10.5
