Great beginner, can be more with upgrades

I bought this bike as a beginner. I didn't really know any better so I was satisfied with it. My only negative remark is that the components were cheap. After 2 years I put a Manitou 120mm fork and a Shimano 1x11 on it, and then you could see what it was intended to be. Then it was no longer a beginner bike, it was a damn good intermediate bike. I rode it for 4 years before buying a FSR, and just sold it to a friend a couple of months ago who loves it. 6 years and literally over to 3000 miles down the rode it is still a solid bike. The upgrades gave it a whole new life. I definitely recommend the Rockhopper, especially if you just want to trail ride, you just need to be ready to upgrade components to get the full potential out of it.

Recommend for sure unless your a pro

Versitale bike that can ride on trails gravel or swap the tires out and take it on the street. Have owned it 2 years now and no issues. Not the lightest bike around but for the 1000$ price range investors satisfied.

Great beginner bike.

I gave this bike 3 stars. That is to say that it adequately does its job. I bought this bike as my first bike and I didn't really now what I was going to be riding. I had miles of gravel at my disposal and several trails close by and I wanted something I could do both with. This does just that in a jack of all trades master of none sort of way. I have put about 1300 miles on this bike in the year I have had it. First and foremost I would say don't walk out of the shop with the stock bottom bracket and cables. Both were toast in 3 months. I broke the lockout on the shock as well but it was my fault. Had it locked and proceeded down a section of trail that was pretty gnarley. Outside of that it's been a solid bike. It has survived trails I am sure it wasn't designed for and has taken me on a couple of IMBA epic runs that it wasn't exactly suited for. It's done it's job and got me hooked on biking. I'm glad I bought this bike first and not a more 1 Trick only type bike. I have recently bought a proper trail bike which means this guy will see a new fork, some handle bar mods and some skinnier tires to become my full time gravel bike. With the multiple bottle mounts and mounts for a cargo rack, solid frame construction and overall comfortable geometry I believe this bike will be in my stable for years to come and will take on a few different forms over time. That's probably the biggest + of this bike. It's ability to morph and be kind of whatever you want it be with sensible component choices.

Great Bike, Recommend

Great Bike for new to intermediate riders. Easy to handle, light weight, love the auto shock lockouts with just a quick click on the handle bars you from trail to street with ease. This is my first bike and it is exactly what I was looking for.
