Ruby Isaac: The Littlest Ambassador

There’s a line in the

Worth It Manifesto: Trust that gutsy girls become gutsy women. Early in 2017, Ruby Isaac caught our eye as someone who epitomized this journey, reminding us what it means to be fierce and mighty, and to love things with all our hearts. Her enthusiasm and barely-contained love for cycling is truly infectious, and prompted us to bring her to the USA in May to report on the Tour of California as

Race Reporter Ruby, cementing her place as Specialized’s littlest ambassador. She nailed the assignment, but we couldn’t help but wonder—what's next on Ruby’s journey?

When you meet her, you just want to bottle all Ruby’s bubbly might and fierceness into a jar and store it away for your own confidence emergency, and it’s easy to forget that, like anyone, she gets nervous, too. She has doubts, sometimes. But in Ruby’s own words, when faced with things you’re not certain you can do, you “just keep trying.” Sometimes this means doing things that you’ve never done before—like traveling to the Netherlands to compete in the European Junior Cycling Tour Assen, a six-day race that would be the longest race Ruby had ever attempted. In late July, we spent several days with Ruby as she got ready to tackle this challenge. Click through to read about her preparation for the race and to hear the hopes, dreams, and flat-out wisdom of a nine-year-old girl in the accompanying video.

Share Your Relentless Spirit

To name, or not to name, that is the question. No matter which side of the argument you fall on, we believe you should express yourself in any way you damn well please. And if that means naming your bike—or not naming it—we’re all for it. Take Fly Girl, the name given to the

new Tarmac ridden in this story. It’s a sassy reflection of who the rider is and what she wants to do on that bike, namely to absolutely fly while training or racing, and to feel absolutely badass at the same time.

Your bike’s name might be serious or silly, or based on a random pun that came to you in the shower. Maybe you were inspired by its color while commuting to work, or just noodling around the neighborhood with the wind in your hair and it came to you? Bikes are our companions on this Worth It journey, and while some prefer to remain anonymous, i.e. un-named, others have their monikers peppered loudly and proudly into conversations and added to Strava profiles. Read about the adventures of one Tarmac—Fly Girl—then click through to share bike names and your relentless spirit with the world.

What Makes It Worth It to You?

Is it savoring the view after a long and hard climb? Is it the friends you’ve met, or knowing you’re inspiring others to go farther or try harder, every day? Perhaps it’s just because you never get tired of that feeling of deep and utter satisfaction when you nail a jump or conquer a fear? We made this video to share some of the reasons we think it’s always Worth It to get out there—now we’d love to hear yours.

Thank you, Mom

For many of us, Mom was right there when we first took those hesitant wobbles on our bicycles. Sometimes it was her calm hand on our small backs, guiding us down the driveway. At other times, it was magically appearing at our side to soothe our nerves or kissing skinned elbows when we fell. Moms are our role models and superheroes. Throughout our lives, they instill in us a love for independence and life on two wheels, while also helping to teach us why its worth taking on new challenges and finding new limits—qualities we pass on to our own children. We made this video as a little token of appreciation to share on Mother’s Day, but we don’t believe it should be limited to just one day. Every day should be Mother’s Day—so for all the Moms out there, this is for you.
