So, I am going to go ahead and assume that if your buying this bike for your kid. If not, then move on. I would say that if your kid is going to use this casualy like to ride around the neighborhood, then this is a fantastic choice. But if your really into mountain biking then its not the best choice. You see, if your kid is obsessed with downhill, jumping, racing, etc then this bike is going to be insufficient. I say this because the derailer is prone to braking, there is no dropper, and the biggest problem: the fork. I swear this fork is complete garbage. It is good for riding around the neighborhood but about nothing else. So, if your kid is going to take it around their suburban neighborhood, then why haven't you hit that big BUY button?? But if you want to take this thing mountain biking regularly, then you should go with a bike with better brakes, like shimano deore, and something with a dropper.

Have been riding this bike for about a year after upgrading from an old garbage haro bike with a massive 3x in the front. I'm just graduating from being a beginner (I'm hitting most intermediate features like jumps, drops, and rock rolls now) and this bike has been PERFECT for learning on. I'm going to upgrade the stem and eventually the brakes and fork, then shred until I absolutely need to upgrade to a full sus. I must say it doesn't take much to please me so if you're picky like the guys on pink bike, you probably won't like the bike as much as I do.

The Rockhopper is my first proper mountain bike and I absolutely love it! I use it for everything starting with basic commuting and ending with shredding the trails. The stock tires are really fast on pavement and have good grip on the trails. It's a really good bike for beginners to learn basic maintenance and mechanics of a proper mountain bike. The gears are really good and the brakes are really good too. The bike itself is fairly light for an aluminium frame size XXL and I as a tall rider appreciate the geometry of the bike it is very efficient. The bike is great for everything. It's future proof because it's easy to upgrade and is very good and reliable stock spec. I have the bike for almost 2 months now and I have ridden a few thousand kilometres which for me is a lot but very easily achievable on this bike I would recommend this bike for everyone at this price point!

This is my first mountain bike and I have really loved it so far. This bike leaves so much room for progression and a bike I see myself owning for many years to come. The seat is so comfy and it's an easy bike to work on. I upgraded the handlebars because the ones that come on it are a little short and very thin. I highly recommend this bike and have even convinced a few other people to get the same exact one that I have!

This bike is a good ride for a beginner on MTB trails. I have taken it in XC, Trail, and even a downhill track and had alot of fun. The microshift 1x system and shifter do a great job, as do the hydraulic Shimano brakes. The peddles get slick quickly on wet trails, but thats an easy upgrade. Tires on this bike are great. Overall I am happy with it. Possibly some better values out there to be had, but overall a good bike. I disagree with a previous reviewer.. I prefer my Spec Comp over the 2020 Trek Marlin 7.. to each their own, i prefer the geometry of this bike.

I have a 2020 comp, pretty same and I love it its geometry is comfortable it is light it has room for upgrades but it is still lots capable as it is. It is easy to get lost on riding it for 40+km. Hands down nicest bike ive ever had. I wish the gear ratio was a little wider and the fork was a little better otherwise it is great!

Purchased for my daughter as her first real mountain bike. This is a legit 29er with Shimano hydraulic brakes and a 1x drivetrain.

I own both a Rockhopper Comp and a Trek Marlin 6. The Trek is hands down the more superior ride. It's a faster bike and stops on a dime. I was unsatisfied with the hydro disc brakes on the zRockhopper and fell in love with the brakes on the Trek. Same components and $200 cheaper, you're better off with the Marlin
