2021 Roubaix Sport

With seven wins at Paris-Roubaix, our Roubaix has proven that Smoother is Faster. Until this moment, however, smooth has admittedly come with some compromises. But not anymore. The all-new Roubaix Sport now delivers compliance without compromise by introducing a radical new Future Shock 1.5 that gives you more control on rough roads, a new Pavé seatpost that creates our most balanced Roubaix to date, aerodynamics that equal the Tarmac, and a Rider-First Engineered™ frame that’s shed some serious weight. Is it still comfortable? Sure, but don’t call it a comfort bike, because performance was behind every engineering decision we made. This is the new Roubaix.

This Roubaix Sport provides a tremendous value, but like the frame itself, this value doesn’t come with any compromises. We spec’d it with Shimano’s 105 11-speed groupset for its crisp shifts and powerful hydraulic disc brakes, as well as smooth and sturdy DT R470 Disc wheels, the all-new S-Works Pavé seatpost, 28mm Turbo Pro tires, and our fan-favorite Power Sport saddle.

So smooth

I'm over 65, I was looking for a more comfortable bike and my local bike shop recommended the Roubaix Sport, it ticked all my boxes, and so much more. I ride on narrow country lanes in Surrey Hills and South Downs national park in UK, the road surfaces are bumpy, the top surfaces cracked and broken, 60 - 70 km on my trusty aluminium bike would give me pain and numbness is my wrists, seat and feet, it limited my range. The stem suspension, and carbon frame and seat post has completey changed all that, it is so SMOOTH, like riding on TDF routes in France. The bike has changed my whole outlook on how far and how often I can ride - brilliant. The web pictures of the pale blue version do not do it justice, mine has a beautiful metallic sparkle, the black is natural carbon fibre lay-up and within the metallic blue is a network of fine white, symetrical lines that dazzle in the sun shine. Magic.

First 500 miles

Happy with the bike at 500 miles. I ride 6 to 8k per year. Its comfortable , quick and handles well. The shimano 105 group is doing fine. Wish it had a 105 crankset. Have not had a problem with the praxis just would look better with a complete 105 set up. The tires I though I would need to swap out were a pleasant surprise. They ride as well as tires costing twice as much. The frame is beautiful! The paint is a head turner. I got the blue. I swapped the saddle for a Brooks b17. Personal preference. I have no regrets so far and would recommend it if you can find one to buy.

Far exceeded my expectations

Initially I had concerns about list price and purchasing a bike without a test ride. This bike far exceeded my expectations. Reasons for purchase: - color Satin Silver Flake (hotness) - Disk brake - FutureShock - tubeless ready wheelset (converted immediately) - group set This bike is lighter than my other Endurance full carbon frame set rim brake bike with wider tires. As one of the faster riders in my group this bike makes me faster and safer with disk brakes First ride was a Century Mile ride. I was faster and more comfortable on the Roubaix. Tubeless saved me from 2 flats so far. As for the components, I've had to replace parts on my old bike. The 105 group set is known for durability factors and lower cost to replace parts.

I like the bike, but some bunk components

The bike rides great, but several components have failed, and rather quickly after purchase. The first failure was a bolt in the seat post. This bolt was replaced under warranty pretty quickly so it really just cost me the ride, but when the crank failed a few months later, Specialized customer service told me to contact Praxis, from whom I never received a response. I replaced the crank with a Shimano 105, matching the rest of the groupset and haven't had any trouble since. I still would not buy again.

Smoother is...more comfortable and enjoyable

This is the first road bike I have bought in 30 years and I think it is excellent! My other bikes are a Specialized Comp hybrid (which I'll compare the Roubaix to) and a full suspension mountain bike. So, why the 5 stars? This bike is comfortable which means it's easier to ride for longer and go further which, in my view, increases enjoyment. The frame is compliant yet sufficiently responsive if you need to pick up speed or are going up a steep climb. The future shock 1.5 is good, really good. It absorbs a lot of road noise and makes a big difference to comfort, and there is virtually no movement when climbing. My arms are noticeably less tired after riding the Roubaix for a couple of hours compared to my hybrid which has a more relaxed geometry. I'm sure the pave seat post helps too but as I'm under 70Kg it probably has less flex in it than for a heavier rider although I find the back end of the bike compliant enough. The seat is surprisingly comfortable too. The components are decent quality. 105 shifting is good and the 105 brakes are excellent. The wheels are adequate and are used on the Expert model which is £2000 more expensive. No doubt the shifting would be slightly better if I had Ultegra but for me it wouldn't be worth the additional £750 (for the Comp model) considering the frame and future shock are exactly the same. You can get a competitor bike with the similar kit (minus the future shock) a bit cheaper but in my view Specialized invest in providing a package that is unbeatable overall in terms of its ride, handling and specification. The only part of this bike I have changed is the stem for a slightly shorter reach and more elevation but that's just down to my size and age! I'm 5ft9in (1.75m) and ride the 54. I am looking forward to many more hundreds of miles on my Roubaix.
