Turbo Vado 3.0

2020 Turbo Vado 3.0

If you can characterize your life as on-the-go, busy, or not having enough time, we made a bike for you—the Turbo Vado 3.0. It's made to accommodate busy lives that are always in movement, which is why we took our award-winning pedal-assist technology and accelerated it well into the future.

Beginning with the integrated Specialized 1.2 E motor, the Turbo Vado proves itself as the ultimate city bike. The 1.2 E uses the same hardware as our 1.2 motor, but it features a tune that prioritizes efficiency. This means less peak torque and maximum output. Of course, it still features a near-silent operating design with our Custom Rx Street Tune that takes the output and makes it the most usable for an urban environment. Think of it this way: The more power you put out, the more power the motor puts out, and this makes accelerations from a standstill at, say, a traffic light both quick and efficient. The belt driven motor is also smooth, silent, and free of annoying vibrations.

For the Vado 3.0, we developed a custom Specialized U1-460 battery that seamlessly integrates into the frame, is lockable, and easily removable for simplified charging. In other words, there's plenty of juice to take you to and from work, a trip to the grocery store, or even to that new café on the other side of the city. If you wish to see exactly how far you can go on a charge, have a look at our Turbo Range Calculator for more exact estimates.

The new wired Turbo Connect Display (TCD-w) is the best way to view data on your Turbo. It not only displays important ride metrics (speed, cadence, rider power, distance, battery level, time, etc.), it also allows you to connect the latest version of the Mission Control App for an enhanced Turbo experience. With our free app for iOS and Android phones, you easily customize motor parameters, control your range, record/upload rides, and perform basic system diagnosis.

To top off all of the innovative features, we chose a worry-free spec that features Shimano 9-speed components, hydraulic disc brakes, front/rear lights, and fender & rack mounts.

I would buy this again

I love this bike. The only thing I could complain about is the LCD screen in metric. It shows how to change it but have yet to get it to work but this is only my first day.

My favorite ebike

OK....it's my first electric bike. After almost a year of educating myself on the plethora of eBike offerings, I had settled on two online retailers. Names withheld, but in the $2,700 to $4,000 usd price range. Problem with online bikes are (in my opinion) one of those items that you just need to try out and touch & feel. Decided did not want to mess with assembly ( tho capable) or returning if bike was not the right fit, etc. Certainly for a large group of individuals this works, but not for this soon to be 74 year old. As a disclaimer, I drive a Tesla dual motor model 3 which is also my favorite electric car. So, EBikes for me are a natural progression. As a retired marketing sales professional, I do understand the world we live in & the changes ever evolving (Covid 19). So, Turbo Vado 3.0 has been on the road with me for a variety of rides from 3 miles to 18 miles over a varied terrain. Wow, this senior citizen really likes the fact that you can pedal unassisted (much like a regular bike) or choose to have your bike help. After many years of road bikes riding & a hiatus of many years, this is a great deal of joy & fun! Front shock really helps in our not so great roads & a suspension seat post is on order. With that & a pannier, I will be ready for more robust distances & adventures. Specialized got this bike right with handling & Mission Control app. Using the way back machine (I.e.) me 20 years younger, this would still be a great bike. My youngest son even likes the bike (at age 29). His only complaint is no throttle.....hah! Thanks to Specialized for a well thought out design. Time will tell on reliability, but I plan to do my part in maintaining the bike.

I will recommend the Vado to a friend

I purchased the Vado to ride to work which is twenty four miles round trip. At sixty years old the hills can get a little tough at the end of the day. I'm still getting a great work out and the hills are so much easier. I have a S works road bike that I'm still riding on the weekends. But during the week I'll be riding the Vado. The components are very good as far as beIng responsive.

Fixed the KPH to MPH issue

The tech that built my bike set the computer to metric for some reason, but it does have the option to switch it. The Specialized customer support didn't give me a solution when I emailed, but when I called the guy talked me through how to change it. *press the left button for 5 seconds to enter set-up mode, then both buttons at the same time to toggle to the next setting. NOW my bike is perfect! This bike is incredibly fun to ride. I've put about 100 road miles on my VADO in the past few weeks, and love it. My GHOST mountain bike may need to be upgraded to a LEVO one of these days now that I've become partial to the power, speed and joy of riding an e-bike.

Great trekking bike!

I've always ridden mountain bikes, both in the mountains and on the road, but as a way to try and get my wife to start riding with me I thought I'd find a couple e-bikes. In the past she's never wanted to go riding, but since I bought her the Turbo Como-ST 3.0 and myself the Turbo Vado 3.0 she looks forward to it. The best part is that we can ride at the same speed, but have two totally different workouts by adjusting the level of boost. When I ride by myself I get up to 33mph on the Vado. When I ride with my wife who typically rode at 8-10mph, we can now ride at 15-20mph. My ONLY complaint is that the computer only displays Kilometers/hour and I'm in the USA where we use Miles/hour. So the only way I know my speed and distance is if I have the Mission Control App running because I have no reference for number conversions. So to know my speed and distance I had to buy a Goodie Box from Timbuk2 so my phones screen can be viewed from the top bar, because the App can convert KPH to MPH. I really wish they'd have considered that they were selling the bike in the USA. I emailed customer support to ask if the setting could be changed and HOW to do it, and all they did was reply and say to read the manual for the computer, which I'd already done.

Great E bike

Have got compliments from people on how nice the bike looks. It is well designed. Have ridden bike 200 miles. Mostly using ECO mode or no assist. On a 48 mile ride today with 4,016 feet of ascent I had 29% battery left but I started with 90% battery. To be fair I did use Turbo mode more on this ride just for the heck of it. On a previous ride of 48 miles with 3,301 feet of ascent I had 47% battery left started with 100% battery. I am very happy with the battery usage. I am not trying to be a speed demon.
