Men's Stumpjumper EVO Comp Alloy 27.5

2019 Men's Stumpjumper EVO Comp Alloy 27.5

Let's get something clear—the Stumpjumper EVO Comp Alloy 27.5 isn't a "normal" trail bike. It's built to get gnarly, and there's no real way around that. It has a slacked-out front-end and a longer top tube, so the EVO has heavier steering, exceptional front-end traction, and it begs you to boost every lip and do cutties as often as possible. And with the flick-ability that 27.5-inch wheels are known for, you can add-in even more steeze.

What exactly is "EVO" for? EVO is for the shredders—the gnarliest trail riders who live for gravity riding. Big drops, huge kickers, rocks, roots—whatever you throw at it, the Stumpjumper EVO can handle it. EVO uses the same style-specific sizing that's featured on our Demo. This sizing lets you choose the bike that fits the way you ride—not just by the seat tube measurement like with most bikes—and it narrows things down to two sizes, S2 and S3. These are longer, lower, slacker, and have seat tube and head tube heights that allow you to choose the size that best suits your style and terrain.

Our other design goal was simple—build the ultimate trail bike, one that feels telepathic. And it turns out that this feeling all comes down to stiffness. Think of it this way: when the frame's telling your hands one thing and your feet another, your brain gets confused with the imbalance and the bike feels unstable. In order to fix this, we had to get to work on dialing-in the materials and shapes.

We continued down the suspension path with a custom Rx Trail Tune on both the fork and rear shock. Suspension performance is highly dependent on frame, wheel, and rider size, so we use our Rx Tune to get each bike to land in the middle of the adjustment spectrum, and this gives you the biggest possible range to fine-tune your ride. Another focal point of the tune was matching the suspension characteristics between wheel sizes—we developed a specific Rx Tune for each platform. So, no matter what wheel size you prefer, you'll get perfectly linear suspension.

Steps were also taken to make this bike easy to live with. Threaded bottom brackets make a triumphant return, and we made room for up to a 2.8" tire. You're also free to run whatever aftermarket rear shock you want, since we're using standard metric shocks. And customization is furthered with a Flip Chip that lets you to dial-in your Stumpy to your riding style. Switch it from High to Low and it drops your bottom bracket 6mm and slackens the head tube by half-a-degree. Little details also jump out to surprise you, like a newly designed ribbed chainstay protector that makes chain slap a thing of the past and nearly silences the drivetrain.

The build here keeps the "EVO" theme going, with ready-to-shred parts like a FOX DPX2 rear shock (150mm of travel), FOX Rhythm 36 fork (150mm of travel), SRAM Code R brakes, and Roval Traverse 27.5 alloy wheels. And when you top it off with SRAM's NX Eagle drivetrain, you'll have no problem getting it to the top of the runs, either.

The best of the best!

recently purchased this bike and I am beyond satisfied. The SJ Evo handles every trail with ease and if you're feeling lucky the SJ Evo can handle down hills with better traction. I cant wait to take it out on more trails. Highly recommend.

Best bang for buck monster!!

I've had the bike for 2 months now and i'm loving it.Coming from a quite messed up bike this thing works like a dream.Loving the fox suspension too...plush as fk.I did bump my pedals here and there quite a bit tho but i get used to it.This geometry, stiffness and ride characteristics just blew me away from my first ride.Gotta love its humble look but devestating ride.Pretty much a definate buy it!!!

Star struck by its performance

The the money, the components, geometry, and overall ride quality is all worth it. This bike is by no means small, it's a big boy bike that is long, slack, FAST on the descent, climbs pretty good. Does well on the jumpline stop. Took me getting used to how long the thing is. Wheelbase is loooong! Perfect for descending though. Little bit heavy too. But if your confident, that weight shouldn't mean a thing to you. Coming from Florida, this bike plasters everything, so I'm moving to a mountainous region! The EVO turns heads too. I love the raw brushed alloy look. No one knows what it is but they know it's fire. Low key decals. Doesn't scream I'm specialized until you shred.

What a bike!

Awesome climbing and descending abilities but I really want to convert the air shock and fork to coil. But the problem is, is that the shock has a weird eye to eye and stoke length 210x52.5. Does anyone know what other metrics would fit the bike? For the shock I was looking at the rockshox super deluxe col rct with I believe 230x65. Does anyone know if there is some way to fit this into my frame?

I would recommend this bike to anyone looking for good times

I have been riding this bike for a little over a month now and am blown away by it. It is a monster on the descents! I opted for the longer S3 version at 6'0"", and it has persuaded me to size up on all my bikes, I really enjoy the longer reach. Once this bike is up to speed, the confidence it inspires is on par with my demo. Then when it is time to climb, it can make it up easily with a comfortable seat tube angle and efficient lockout. The bike feels glued to the ground in the front, especially cornering and in the steep stuff, but remains poppy and playful. The lower bottom bracket took a little getting used to, but with some pre-meditated pedal placement, is not an issue and adds to the stability without doubt.

This thing is a blast!

I have been waiting for this one for months, Now that I have ridden it for 2 weeks, this bike is everything it is billed to be. Handles great off big senders and drops. It corners as well as my old SX ds bike. For steep jumps, take out the rebound and switch to middle setting on the rear shock. Im a small dood so I got the S2. Only mods I have made are 165mm crank, specialized 40mm trail stem, Power comp saddle and small volume reducer in rear shock. They nailed it on this bike! .
