Men's Stumpjumper Comp Alloy 29

2018 Men's Stumpjumper Comp Alloy 29

No need to fret—we haven't forgotten about all you alloy fans out there. In fact, the new Stumpjumper Comp Alloy 29 may be the most radically designed alloy bike ever made. For real, though. And with new tube shapes and an asymmetrical design, it's going to exceed all of your expectations of how a trail bike should ride.

Our design goal for the new Stumpjumper was simple—build the ultimate trail bike, one that feels telepathic. And it turns out that this feeling all comes down to stiffness. Think of it this way: when the frame's telling your hands one thing and your feet another, your brain gets confused with the imbalance and the bike feels unstable. In order to fix this, we had to get to work on dialing-in the material and shapes.

We continued down the suspension path with a custom Rx Trail Tune on both the fork and rear shock. Suspension performance is highly dependent on frame, wheel, and rider size, so we use our Rx Tune to get each bike to land in the middle of the adjustment spectrum, and this gives you the biggest possible range to fine-tune your ride. Another focal point of the tune was matching the suspension characteristics between wheel sizes—we developed a specific Rx Tune for each platform. So, no matter what wheel size you prefer, you'll get perfectly linear suspension.

Steps were also taken to make this bike easy to live with. Threaded bottom brackets make a triumphant return, and we made room for up to a 2.6" tire. You're also free to run whatever aftermarket rear shock you want, since we're using standard metric shocks. And customization is furthered with a Flip Chip that lets you to dial-in your Stumpy to your riding style. Switch it from High to Low and it drops your bottom bracket 6mm and slackens the head tube by half-a-degree. Little details also jump out to surprise you, like a newly designed ribbed chainstay protector that makes chain slap a thing of the past and nearly silences the drivetrain.

The build here is no-nonsense with a focus on dependable, high-performing parts, like a Shimano SLX drivetrain with RaceFace cranks, Shimano SLX disc brakes, FOX front and rear suspension, and Roval Traverse 29 alloy wheels.

Awesome all around bike !

I bought this bike in March and have really enjoyed it so far! I've been mountain biking since 1985 (yup I'm getting old!) and I'm amazed by the suspension and how well it climbs! Great all around bike for the areas I ride (New England, so many rocks !) and awesome spec for the price. Only things I've changed is the bars (more sweep), grips (bigger diameter) and saddle (WTB). Buy one and ride it anywhere

Great ride...

2 years on and still love the bike. Have replaced so much on it. Lyrik up front, carbon roval traverse rims, dpx2 shock. Bike keeps getting more capable!

Wished I would have ridden this first.

In the Phoenix area for a couple of weeks mountain biking and feel compelled to give a review on this fantastic bike. I just bought a Trek Fuel EX 8 but didn't want to ship it down here. I was able to rent a like new XL SJ and was worried it might end up feeling small because I am 6'05"" but it fits perfect and even better than my XXL Fuel which I can't wrap my head around other than the SJ has a slacker ST angel. Anyway, this bike really surprised me. Despite it having a lot of travel, it rides as good as an XC bike. It's made for these rocky desert trails and I am having a blast on it. Great specs: SLX is the sweet spot for components IMHO. Threaded BB and it will accept 3.0 tires. Not much not to like about it unless you have to have carbon. I wished I would have been able to try this bike first before buying the Fuel. The Trek was supposed to have been my last bike purchase for a while but how was I to know? My wife is going to kill me.

Great bike

It's is an awesome bike ready to tackle anything only little thing that bugs me is it needs to be taken care of thoroughly after rides (like grease bearings and stuff after like 5 rides) and after a little bit it will start to make creaking noises but over all it's an amazing bike handles every thing in its path and couldn't have a better one, I would really recommend it to you intermediate riders out there

I'm so happy with this bike

Just getting back into MTB after years of road riding. My last bike was a 2005 Giant full suspension, 26"" wheels. Going back to my old trails, I'm shocked how this bike climbs or descends over things I could never previously do. Basically this means that if you are a strong bike rider with low to medium technical skills, you can shred on this bike. I'm also glad I went for this one over the ST version. The component package is fantastic and the dropper post, I now realize, is a must-have.

The best bike on the trail

I've had this bike for 2 weeks and rode it 20 miles and one thing is for sure, this is the best bike I have ever ridden. At first I thought that it might be a little overkill here in south Florida but I'm so glad I got this bike, it's so comfortable and smooth but also very very fast, the confidence you feel on this bike is unlike anything else, climbing, descending, cornering, I can't find anything this bike isn't great at. If your like me and you want one bike to do everything...this is it.

This bike is a revelation.

I ride anything from XC to enduro trails, and this bike absolutely shines in every situation. I have put about 100 miles on this bike, and I couldn't be more in love with this machine. I had been searching for the ""right"" bike for me for over 2 years, and when this bike was released, it checked every one of my ""must have"" boxes. I've been conquering trails that I couldn't dream of with my old rig (late-2000's full-sus). Climbs great, descends like mad, and looks stellar in the ""acid mint"" color scheme. Basically, it's pretty dang good.
