With latex tubes this is a fantastic feeling tire. Grippy and smooth ride. In terms of punctures, i have had one, due to a piece of metal wire that would have punctured any tire. I had many more flats on Corsa Controls. Yes they dont last long, but they are cotton race tires - you know that when you buy. I would prefer a lighter sidewall color (too yellow), but that's nitpicky. Best tire in my opinion. I use Veloflex as well for cost and look, but these feel better.
Completed 5 rides on my s-works tarmac with these tyres which were supplied new with the bike. I have had 3 punctures on the last 2 rides and only just managed to limp home today with the help of another rider who lent me his pump after running out of CO2 cartridges due to 2 punctures just riding on the road. I love how these tyres roll and they look great but I have never experienced so many punctures while road riding - could i just have been unlucky?
I like the tires, and I wanted to like them even more, but they seem to have different puncture resistance. The first set I bought flatted every time out, this set has been rock solid, had one puncture that would have flattened any tire. Overall, the feel, grip. rolling resistance and comfort with Silca Latex tubes has been great. Gum walls have a nice look too...
I was a little reluctant to buy these tires after reading some of the reviews but wanted to give them a try, so far so good. Getting flat tires is going to happen no matter what tire is on the bike. If you ride with the proper pressure each time you ride you should have no issues. It also matters how you ride, if you ride over stones on the road constantly you are bound to puncture, ride with some awareness and you will be fine. I wipe down the tires with a damp cloth after every ride to remove any tiny particles that are stuck on the tire so they are ready for the next ride. I have found out in the past by not doing this, any tiny stones or pebbles left on the tire will dig themselves into the tire eventually causing a puncture. This has practically eliminated any issues on the road during my rides. The tires ride smooth and take corners extremely well. I expect these tires to last about 3500 miles or so. I would definitely consider buying again.
I love these tires, especially on my S-Works Roubaix. A nice ride, grippy, fast, lightweight. However, after about 650 miles on them, had lots of flats; the tires just get too worn out and are prone to puncturing when it gets thinner. So, expect them to be an awesome ride, but not long-lasting. I'll probably use them for events only, then change them out. Went to a Conti 500 TL and love them for training and general riding. Will probably get the tubeless version of the Turbo Cotton for event use.
I have ridden my S-Works on this tire for 300 miles now And have had no issues. It is just fantastic. Very high quality product. Looks amazing. Rides super fast. Just awesome!
Personal I ride mainly on roads and void bike paths, I only had one puncher since using these tyres on my Tarmac and Venge. I ridden 4000km's on these tyres.
This came with my S-Works Tarmac and I love the look. It feels supple and fast as anything but I have had too many flats. It just doesn't give me the reassurance I need to be out for a few hours riding. Inevitably I will run out of repair options and have to call the team car (my wife)
Used for hard rides on varying terrian 30to50 miles per ride multiple times a week. Get a flat every other week from a varietry of sources. I finally took the off after crashing on a turn as the black tire surface placed on the yellowish side wall started to unbond which caused my front tire to wash out. Not worth the flats or the risk of failure after about 4 to 5 months of use.
I like these tires, and I wanted like them even more. They look and roll great, a little more road noise than the Conti GP5000's.. but... the puncture resistance is not there, tread area and sidewalls are durable to bumps/cracks/RR tracks but they so sticky that they pick up small pebbles and are puncture prone to small rocks and road debris. Overall I really like the look, ride, comfort, handling and speed... but you'll need to carry 2-3 extra tubes and a patch kit to make sure you get back home... ;-)
Great tire
Purchased and installed to merchandise a high-end road bike!
Of all of the tires I've ridden over the years, none compare to the speed of the Turbo Cotton. Not only do they look incredible, they roll better than any other road tire I've ran. Perfect tire for speed when you need it most.
I was a little reluctant to buy these tires based on durability concerns spawning from reading some of the reviews. I have rode nearly 300 miles since then, and I have had no such issues. I really think some reviewers just ride over anything - I'm not one to get many flats anyway. Yes, I have hit a small pothole or 2, and these have stood just fine. As for the performance... Goodness. The smooth softness is real, and the roll is just as smooth and consistent. The difference can be felt on any road, even smooth tarmac. I have to give the engineers credit on these; when it comes to comfort and roll, I don't think they can be beat. Traction seems decent, but have had limited rain experience - only about 2 miles in the rain. I would see this as a great cycling season tire in the south and a summer tire up north.
Best tires ever!
Great tire. No flats until after 4,000 miles and they are close to replacement time. Ride is like a tubular. I have been using the 26. My riding buddy also has them and he has had an excellent experience with them as well.
These tires ride like a dream. Uber smooth on the road, I feel they accelerate very nicely, and can confidently take sharp turns.
I rode this tires for about 3 times, approximately 200 miles and on my second ride I got flat which it took me a year an half to get a flat on the same roads with the specialized turbo tires, with those tires I am happy, I put them back on an no flats anymore, then on my third ride I got another flat but this one was different I guess I went over a piece of glass and opened a slit of about 3/8"" exposing the inner tube and therefore led to the inner tube to extrude out and the inevitable flat thus rendering a very expensive tire useless, I had to be creative to make it home, glued a patch on the inside of the tire to prevent the spare tube to have the same fate or I would have had to call road assistance (my wife) to rescue me. Conclusion this tires are made for special circuits with very clean roads not for the real world we ride on, in the other hand I did feel the difference in riding my bicycle definitely faster than my turbo tires but not reliable at all for long rides therefore I can not recommend them for training every day use.
This is the best road tire in the market. Rides smooth and fast. It is a little more prone to cuts and flats but if you ride in good roads without too much debris it will last for many thousands of miles.
Love these tires. Tons of confidence in the turns-rode in the rain and very stable.
I wish it were a bit better about puncture resistance. The color of the sidewall seems to attract a lot of dirt, so it might just be better to get all-black tires.
These tires came with my S-Works Tarmac Disk. I managed to ride only 50 miles during which I got 3 flats! They are lightweight tires, no protection against the stuff you usually ride over on roads in the USA. Small stones, glass, thorns, sticks, pebbles, potholes, steel belt pieces will all render these tires useless.
There are two places where these tires really stand out from the crowd: ride quality and grip. I normally ride S-Works Turbos (also great tires), but the roads I ride a lot are a kind of chip seal which even with the Turbos still produce a little buzz in the hands. Slap on the Turbo Cottons and that buzz just disappeared into a blissful, supple, silky silence. Amazing. The grip is similar to the Turbos as well--there's no thought of worry about leaning into turns down winding California descents, just confidence and poise. The downside as people have already mentioned is that they wear very quickly. Normally I can get a set of Turbo tires to last 5-6000 miles (a year or so), but these showed pretty significant wear after only a thousand. So now I mostly use them only for race day or on long days in the saddle where I just want to glide down the road and feel like a rockstar.
They're great through the corners and smooth across the chopped up road surfaces. Glad I bought 'em!
I'll be replacing this set with another. I'm nearly down to bottom of the TWI's with no flats logged. The tire is fast reliable and grips like a magnet in fast tight turns. Rides, rolls, responds like no other tire I've ever had. Wears out faster but it's traction is superior. Was concerned initially that flat protection was Blackbelt 1X rather than Blackbelt 2X but still no flats.
I will raise my right hand in the air and say these are the best riding tires I've ever ridden. Now, I will say this... If your priorities lie in the realm of durability and flat resistance, I'd recommend going with the Roubaix Pro or something of that sort. They're simply not designed for that purpose. However, if you place a high value on things like ride smoothness, handling, going stupidly fast, etc., this is your tire. I fell in love with this tire the first time I pedaled through a corner at a crit, in the rain, without touching my brakes. It was an overwhelming confidence boost. Aside from racing, they're just smooooooth. Combine these with a lightweight/latex inner tube and you'll be in ride quality heaven. Sure, they're not cheap, but it's easy to spend much more in other upgrades to get the same experience. When's the last time less than $200 completely changed how your bike rode for the better?
