2019 Men's Tarmac Disc Pro

Whether you're racing friends on the weekend, snagging a new KOM or PR, or mixing it up in a local road race, the Tarmac Disc Pro it the purpose-built to do it with.

In order cut some grams from the Tarmac, but to also ensure that it's stiff and compliant in exactly the right places, we took major steps to improving our Rider-First Engineered™ technology. From different layup schedules and materials, to visibly different forks, we scrutinized every single aspect of the Tarmac to ensure you're getting the perfect ride. With this revamp, we also updated the geometry, basing it on countless Retül data points and professional rider input. This enabled us to develop a Performance Road Geometry that perfects the combination of a responsive front-end and short wheelbase, which delivers instantaneous response and optimal power transfer.

And while stiffness aids in the aforementioned, compliance must also be utilized for an optimal ride quality. That's why we designed a seatpost that builds compliance into the upper 120mm where clamping doesn't happen, dropped the seatstays, and altered the seat tube shape. We also added tire clearance up to 30mm, which translates to a 28mm Turbo Cotton on a Roval CL 50 Disc wheel. This allows lower pressures for decreased rolling resistance, increased traction, and more comfort. Altogether, these additions still have the Tarmac riding like a true race-machine, but it also takes a bit of the sting out of road imperfections. You'll thank us on your next long ride.

But why disc brakes? The real question is "why not?" They offer superior braking power and modulation, work exceptionally well in wet weather, and offer a very, very minor weight addition. All this means that you have more control and can go faster with more confidence.

We also know, however, that aerodynamic improvements are the most important thing we can do to make you faster. Our Bora-Hansgrohe and Quick-Step Floors Pro Tour riders, after all, are demanding aero improvements on every bike. With this, the aero goal was to discover where we could essentially "add aero for free," by not taking anything away from the hallmarks of the Tarmac design. During the six-month iterative process, three areas were discovered where we could do this—a new fork shape, dropped seatstays with aero tubes, and a D-shaped seatpost and seat tube. The result? A bike that's approximately 45 seconds faster over 40km compared to other lightweight bikes in the same category.

The spec on this Tarmac means business, with Shimano Ultegra Di2 handling shifting duties, powerful hydraulic disc brakes, and lightweight and aerodynamic Roval CL 50 Disc carbon wheels.

Excellent bike with cool aesthetic

Sure I wanted the S-Works but for my type of rider and the rides I do, I couldn't justify the $12K it sold for. This one is still not cheap but a more affordable alternative. I've only got about 1500 miles on it but it's been very capable so far. Have not done killer climbs but it handles the many shorter climbs along my regular routes. I have not felt the front-end twitchiness that some riders have felt but I also don't descend like crazy anymore. I don't put out serious watts so I can only say that the bike is plenty stiff for my 170 lb. frame. One thing is the bike doesn't feel board-stiff. It has some level of give that allows you to get on a rhythm on standing climbs - and not feel like you're fighting the bike. It's sub 17 lbs with pedals so it's not super light. I can just lose an extra 5 lbs. and I'd be ahead. I can imagine how the lighter and probably stiffer S-Works frame would feel like. It's also able to sustain speed on the flats due to the deeper profile rims. Comfort wise, I haven't done long rides on it but it was comfortable enough on 50 mile rides. It's a sweet-looking ride and I get many complements from other riders. I also find myself sometimes staring and admiring its clean, simple look. Everything is well proportioned - no super fat or deep tubes - especially for a smallish size 54 bike. The SL6 frame will live on to be a legendary frame, I think. The matching finish on the saddle and bar tape, which looked great when new, has mostly worn off, but oh well. The matte finish scratches real easy but just keep it wiped down and there's nothing too bad. I dropped the chain one time, it got stuck between the chainring and the BB shell, and the chain scratched the finish as I tried to pull it out. You rarely see any used ones for sale (they may not have built too many) but that's always a good sign. I'm glad to have it as my lone bike.

Amazing Machine

I just picked up this bike and although I am relatively new of a Cyclist, I will say this bike is light, shifting is super responsive, and just dances uphill when climbing. I love how it bursts on the road when when coming across gravel or debris, just really trucks right through. I give a a two thumbs up!

Not really happy with it

Hands down, in general this is a good bike. It is aero, climbs well and compared to the previous generation, it damps really well on the back. So well, that after changing from my 2015 Tarmac Pro Race I always need to check if there is enough air in the back tire. Maybe I was just unlucky with the model I got, but there are a couple of things that really stopped me from falling in love with this bike. I still don't know exactly if my other one, which is four years older, is the better bike: Probably the biggest flaw is that I encountered several really dangerous situations on downhills with speeds over 55 km/h in slightly windy conditions. The bike can turn really nervous with the front wheel lurching around, and I consider myself lucky that I kept myself on the bike in these situations. I still haven't figured out the reason. Is it the rims with a 50 mm profile? Shouldn't be, since Specialized advertises them as allround wheels. I had the bike at my dealer to check stem and headset, and to change the brake disk, but these situations still occur. Not a good feeling! Lesser flaws, but still annoying: The first Ultegra cassette had a tolerance too large, so the bike would always make a sound in the lowest gears riding uphill. Two dealers were unable to find and fix the issue. I resolved it after consulting the Internet and buying a new cassette. Same issue with the bottom bracket and the cranks. Maybe I was just unlucky with this bike, but I never had a road bike that was so noisy from troubles along the drivetrain. The Ultegra disc brakes are a blessing in wet conditions, but start dragging quite often. Haven't identified a pattern behind it yet, it just comes and goes. Not a 100 percent mature product in my opinion. But the scariest thing is really the nervousness during fast downhills when the front wheel is lurching and almost loses touch with the ground. I wonder, if other riders who bought this bike are encountering this problem, too.

Best bike I've ever owned.

I've been riding a Diverge for the last 4 years that I've really enjoyed. The SL6 has been mine dream bike and my wife surprised with one for Christmas. (awesome I know!) This bike scared me at first because it felt so fast. The responsiveness, stiffness and absolute joy you feel when riding it is incredible. Climbing is a lot easier and descending is SO FUN! I love to go fast and this bike allows me to do that with absolute confidence. I rode my first century on it a couple of weeks ago and I didn't feel the fatigue that I have on other bikes. To me this is one of the best looking bikes on the rode. I find myself just staring at it sometime and feeling fortunate to own one. The matte black with holographic logo, seat and bar tape is the perfect contrast. Also, the sound this bike makes when riding fast is fantastic. I feel like I'm part of the peloton. Haha. Thank you Specialized for making such a great bike.

Fast. Light. Inspires Confidence.

This bike inspires. Not just me but others as well. Several of my riding buddies have already decided that this will be their next race bike. There is something to be said about a bike that is light, aerodynamic and had outstanding braking power with its hydraulic brakes. Did I mention the Di2 is incredible and shifts perfectly, every time. I am blown away at the engineering that went into the 2019 Tarmac Disk Pro. Go to your LBS store now and try one out.

Awesome Bike

Purchased in October wish I had it earlier. The winter came and I sort of put it away for now, I have a Roubaix expert that I have put many miles on so use that in the winter. The ride on the Tarmac is super comfortable, quick feels like that I am quicker on the Tarmac. It handles great, the Di2 is amazing and quick. I was concerned that it would not climb as well as the Roubaix boy was I wrong. It climbs great, descends amazing and quick and light. The Roval wheels are great!!!!

You had me at Holographic

I commend specialized for doing everything in their power to make us safer while out on the road! Not only is this bike sexy as heck it outperforms anything I've raced or ridden! Ever!! I was on a 2016 Venge pro disc before this and don't get me wrong that was a great bike. But this Tarmac in incredible ascending descending smashing the local coffee ride it is simple incredible. Stiff as you could want yet unbelievably comfortable on the long rides on rough roads. This along with the all new Ultegra di2 and incredible disc brakes you have an incredible potent machine! This bike is what you need to start chasing down those PR's KOM's and a huge smiles for the miles ahead.
