Why no kickstand?

It is impossible to find a kickstand to fit this bike. The mounting plate is so low that an ordinary stand made for a 16" bike will not work and of course there is no stand available from Specialized. Why then is their a mounting plate built into the bike frame if nothing will fit it? Throw in a cheap kickstand next time and save all this hassle. I've tried 3 different kickstands from Amazon. None fit. All too long even if specified for 12" to 18" bikes. This RipRock frame actually needs a very short 6" to 7" stand due to the low frame design. I guess I have to buy the $25. aluminum kickstand and hacksaw it in half !

Riprock 16

I just purchase this bike for my Grandson who is 3 1/2. The bike works perfect for him. The only complaint I have is that after paying $274 for this bike it was missing a very important element for a beginner bike rider. It needs to have hand brakes on it. My grandson did very well but he hard time with slowing down. Using the foot pedal coater brake made him either slow down not enough or too much. I did order a hand brake set up but it's going to cost me another $40 for parts and labor. I think he will do better with controlling speed with a hand brake in his learning stage. The bike store did have a differenet small bike with front and back hand brake but no training wheels and not the same kind of training wheel set up like the rip rock. The design of the riprock it perfect, just needs to have hand brakes to make it the ultimate beginner bike.

Heavy but sturdy

I got it for my kids 4 years birthday. He used to ride a balance bike a lot so we didn't put training wheels on. My kids had trouble gaining initial speed initially as the bike is pretty heavy, so he picked up speed as if it's a balance bike and then switched to pedals.

I am so glad I

I am so glad I spent the extra money over a bike from a big box store. It is perfect for my 3.5 year old, and I think he can ride it until around 6 years old. At that time, little man will be ready for the 20 inch bike. The quality and ease of use is great, just like my hardtail Specialized bike compared to a big box brand, no comparison for ease/enjoyment of ride. The bike is pretty light and solidly made.
