They say that every journey begins with a single step, but when that journey is related to exercise, that first step can sure be a doozy. It can be life-changing, however, and there's no better machine to take the plunge with than with the Roll.

With its lightweight alloy frame, eight speeds of "go fast" gearing, stable and wide 650b tires, and powerful hydraulic disc brakes, the Roll does everything in its power to encourage and motivate you to keep fit and get around in comfortable, efficient style.

  • The Roll is made of our A1 Premium Aluminum, and it features our Ground Control Positioning that makes it easy to put a foot down when stopped. This Roll also comes ready with rack/fender mounts.
  • Wide diameter, 650b x 2.3" Nimbus II Sport Reflect tires provide excellent traction, stability, and cushioning, which creates a safer, more reliable, and more comfortable ride on either paved or dirt roads. Plus, the reflective accents of the tire increase your visibility to motorists in low-light conditions.
  • Equipped with a Body Geometry Comfort Gel saddle, you can expect a supreme level of comfort anywhere you ride. It is ergonomically designed and scientifically tested to provide unmatched comfort and support while reducing pressure on soft tissue.

Chain drop problems

Disappointed in this bike. Chain drop problems since day 1. Three derailleurs and chains later still problems. Love my retailer, they have been taking care of me. Now they are replacing the front sprocket. Hopefully this resolves the problem. BTW i have a 12 year old 8 speed Electra Ticino and the chain has never dropped. I would not recommend this model unless you like greasy hands.

The most comfortable bike I ever rode...

I had and have alot bikes in my life... so I know bikes... This bike is the most comfortable bike I ever experienced... I have high end Specialized bikes... This bike is excellent for what it was designed for - to chill with relax mood.... Not jumping, or speed.... Looks very modern, feels very comfortable, rides very easy.... I love it and bought few more for my family members.... Probably the best bike for chilled relaxing lazy riding...

Excited, but...

Great bike but experienced the "chain off" on the first ride yesterday. Concerning after reading the same experience from other owners. I bought it at bike shop so I expect it to be assembled correctly. My first comfort bike and I really like the ride, shifting, stopping etc. I tested a Trek Verve 3 but the Roll was a better looking bike IMHO. Also bought new Stumpy back in 2013 and that was a quality purchase! Hopeful for my latest Specialized purchase.

Chain won't stay on front sprocket

Love everything about the bike except for the fact that every 3rd ride, the chain falls off the front sprocket. You can see there's a 'guide' up there, which tries to keep the chain from popping off, but it doesn't work all the time. I should've realized earlier that the 'guide' is there to make up for a major mis-alignment design issue, which is plaguing many owners. I've had mine back to the shop 2 times, and they just re-adjust the 'guide', which I've done about 7 or 8 times because even though everything is tightly mounted, it does slip off after a certain amount of riding. I ride only about 5-8 miles a day, but I really can't go far away from the house because unfortunately I don't trust the bike.

Great but not perfect

I love my new Specialized Roll 3.0. It’s light, geared perfectly for my riding style and comfortable on the body. Brakes are amazing. The only downsides are that the chain comes off if you change gears too fast and the seat isn’t as comfortable as I had hoped. I got the XL size. This is a bike meant for big people and the seat isn’t meant for big people. I’ve since replaced the seat and learned to take it easy when changing gears. Other than those 2 issues, I would recommend the bike to those that want to take long rides and be comfortable as they do it. Bike is fast and is great on hills.

This Roll Doesn't

Assumed management of 22 brand new Roll 3's in a fleet environment. A very poor quality bike in my view (and a half-century of riding). 1. Bikes have been ridden between zero miles (2 bikes) and 1100 miles (2 bikes), over 4 months. 2. 17 bikes have misaligned star nuts in the steerer tube, 9 of 17 severely misaligned (my engineering opinion) 3. 2 bikes have had shifter failures, 1 was repairable, 1 must be replaced entirely, neither was abused. 4. 1 bike has a leaky brake lever assembly (piston seal). 5. 3 bikes had brake lines not properly secured to the frame, 1 was rubbing against the tire and damaged. 6. 5 bikes have chain drop problems, 2 of 5 have broken chain protector rings (reported by others too). On the other hand, I REALLY like the Specialized Nimbus Sport tires. Great rollout and surprisingly sticky in turns.

Not perfect

I love this bike it's super comfortable to ride and I've pust over 100miles on it in about 3 weeks. However the front chainguard popped off the very first time I rode it. I chalked that up to bad luck. But now it's happened a dozen or so times and I only ride on weekends so I'm averaging a chain jump every ride sometimes twice. The chainguard ring has now snapped and is totally useless. Nothing exists online for this and I've also noticed I can't find that replacement part. It's a great bike so I'll give it a 4. But we're it not for these issues Id give a 4.

Love the bike, dislike the packaging and assembly

I recently ordered two of these bikes, the low entry for my wife, and the regular one for me. Her bike arrived packaged much more secure than mine. Mine was not zip tied to the inner box like the other leaving the handle bars to rub on the frame. Her bike also went together flawlessly whereas mine the first couple threads on both crankshafts were boogered making for a nightmare putting the pedals on. Would be great if they could send me some new parts with good threads!!

A long overdue upgrade

I have been a mountain bike / trail bike rider for ever. The leaned-over posture and sore rear end just werent worth it to ride around the neighborhood any more. The upright position, better brakes and fantastic seat made this decision very easy.

Unexpected surprise

Never had owned a Specialized before but checked this model out and was really impressed. I had to order an XL but shipping to the dealer was quick and they did a great job getting me set up on it. My first comfort bike and it was just what I was looking for. Can't beat it for features, performance and quality of build. I love the unique look also.

This is my first bike I bought that wasn't from a walmart type store and I love it.

I've taken it out 4x since I bought it due to the weather and have gotten about 300 miles in total with each ride being around 75 miles. I love it. It's so smooth and easy to pedal. I have slight hills near me but nothing serious and I have no problem getting up them like I did on my old fattire bike. I feel like I'm flying down the road. It's really comfortable. This has been the best bike I've ever bought. It's certainly the most expensive too but 100% worth it to me. I have never had this much fun and comfort on a bike before. It's perfect for going on longer rides.

Still rollin

Got my roll in Fort Lauderdale in, I think 2017. I bought it because I’ve ridden many bikes, and this bike just glides. It almost feels like an electric and that’s not a joke. The length this bike can roll, will surprise you. Mine is completely blacked out with metallic orange reflecting in the paint. It is also a 24 speed which I do not see on the website now. I ride the bike on the beach at least once a week since I got it and while it is a bit rambled, paint chips, etc.… There is zero rust zero tarnish the bike looks awesome and still rolls like an ice skate. I came to the site thinking about buying a new one, and I am delighted to see the LTD 420 version …Enthusiastically recommend this bike.

Mixed review

First the bad; the back brake failed on the FIRST ride. The cable that connects to the lever popped out while I was breaking. On my third ride, the plastic that covers the chain, near the pedals (whatever it's called) somehow came off and got eaten by the chain, while I was taking a ride through a park. Honestly, expected more. But other than that, the bike is comfortable and quick. Just hoping for no more mechanical failures.

Awesome Bike!

I bought one at the bike shop and ordered another one straight from the Specialized site. I put the Roll 3.0 that I ordered together in about 20 minutes and it was my first time assembling a bike out of the box. I hope Specialized never does away with this model bike. Specialized did it right!

Mixed Review

I bought the Roll 3.0 earlier this year when it was on sale (but higher than it is now on sale). After about six months, not continual riding and only in neighborhoods for leisure rides, the chain needed to be replaced as did the front chain ring. The chain kept coming off the chain ring. I had to walk my bike home on a ride for example. When I took it for servicing, the bike shop couldn't keep the chain on either. The replacement chain ring has the "walls" on the side whereas the original did not. Six months in and the bike wasn't under warranty from what I was told. So I had to pay for it. Also, t took many tries to finally get the seat post tight enough to stay in place. On a 10 mile ride, I had to adjust the seat 5 times. And this happened on multiple occasions, even after the bike shop tightened it. The bike is/was overpriced for the quality IMO. However, I've got it dialed in and do enjoy it now. Just frustrated at the onset. (2.5 stars overall.)

Fun bikes. Get them !

Me and my wife love these bikes. Ordered here online and showed up a week later ready to roll ! We both got one and have had a few really fun city adventures since and planning more. They have great features for a reasonable price. The simple 8 speed with a really large hill climb gear in the gear set(no front derailleur needed), the hydraulic brakes for safety, the suspension seat post, the cushy road tires, high handlebars, squishy rubber grips, and strong frame with good welds. There is nothing you need to do to it after it's delivered/picked up, and is a fun bike for the streets or bike paths from what we have done so far. They were not so expensive that we are afraid to park them at a bike rack or parking meter and go inside a store or restaurant for a little while. We paired them with some Abus 551604 Bordo Granit X plus folding locks that have neat small strap on case we put on the frames and also take some 6' long cables coil to lock the tires

Quality Build, Comfortable Ride, Hire a Bike Shop

Like the subject line says: great build. I've been in enough shipyards to recognize a good weld. The welds on the Roll frame are exemplary. The ride is smooth and comfortable. Bumps are hardly felt. The gears shift smoothly. I ordered direct from Specialized and had it shipped to my house. I assembled it myself. I found mounting the rear wheel to be challenging. You had to simultaneously get the disc in the caliper and get the chain and derailer just right. I was stymied for a bit. Also, working on the handlebar stem was a challenge--there are 4 hex bolts that you have to manipulate into place while holding the handlebar steady. I got three done, no problem, but the fourth I just couldn't get right no matter what I tried. I'm sure I cross-threaded it. My crescent wrench was too fat to fully mount the pedals. I had to order some flat pedal wrenches from Amazon for $8. All in all, I would order it again. I encourage those with little assembly experience to work with a bike shop.

Scratched on delivery - LBS not responding but love the bike.

Purchased "Specialized Delivery". LBS called me to come get the bike, even though he was supposed to deliver to our house. He did, but the paint was scratched. Called specialized who said call the LBS, which I did. 2 weeks later waiting still. Also, the chain has slipped off the front gear twice already. Apparently the LBS didn't install it close enough to the Chain. Not a big deal but maybe do it right the first time ? Otherwise I absolutely love the bike

Fitness bicycle for me

I purchased this bicycle for fitness and weight loss. The bicycle has a great riding position for me and I love the handlebars. I ride this bicycle between 22 and 30 miles a day. I have lost over 50 pounds riding this bicycle. Now for the bad, the microshift is not good. After a month of riding, I had to purchase a groupset and crankset to match. I purchased a 10 speed Shimano Deore groupset and a SHIMANO FC-M640 Zee 10 Speed Crankset. Specialized told me that I could only go as high as 10 speed on this bicycle with current wheelset. These upgrades cost me $625 dollars installed, at the local bicycle shop. So total into the bicycle $1518.00, and I got the bicycle on sale. Now it is a great bicycle. I suggest they just put better groupset and charge alittle more and save us all money.

One is good, two is better.

At 65 I'm more interested in hybrids than street bikes. After a lot of research I found what looked like a good bike for a big guy. During covid I bought the first one. All they had was 8 speed, rim brakes but I took it. Under normal circumstances this is a fine bike, however there are a couple hills on one of my routes and the gearing makes them tough. After more research I found a used Roll Sport that's perfect for me and I ride almost everyday, sometimes on 10 mile rides. I have a top peak basket for the front and can pull a cart in the back. I try to cut down on carbon emissions so try to use this for everything. This is a mechanical item and like all things needs adjustments and maintenance. Clean the chain, adjust the derailer, maybe change the peddles and this bike will handle most of your casual riding needs for many years. You won't win any races, but it's not for that purpose. Just get on this and ride. Your life will change.

Nice bicycle for doing long laps

I have 2 of these bicycles, both are great at doing my 10 mile laps. I do 2 or 3 laps 5 days a week. 28 miles takes me about 2hours and 20 minutes on the Roll 3.0. I can't ride them at the moment because the microshift groupset is terrible. They should have put Shimano anything on it instead. My Roll 3.0 last week the derailleur ripped itself off the bicycle while I was riding it for some reason.

Great for back problems

I have 2 back fusions in my lower back. I was so afraid to ride again and be mortified with pain but someone who rides this bike with the same problems as mine recommended to me. I am happy, the bike is comfortable to ride, easy on the lower back, easy on the muscles, a little heavy to carry but the fat tires and the suspension is just what I needed for my special condition. The bike is beautiful. I get compliments all the time. Easy to get in and get out.

Haven't had this much fun riding a bike since I was a child.

I can't believe how smooth and comfortable this bike is compared to my previous bike. Travailing down roads, up and downhills, and over dirt trails, this bike is so easy to ride. Shifting is almost effortless as well. I had some friends ride it and they too couldn't believe how comfortable it is to ride. Although I've never heard of this brand of bicycle, I am so glad I purchased this model new instead of buying another brand name used bike. I like the Specialized story and I would now highly recommend their cycles. I ride it nearly everyday since I purchased it and haven't had this much fun riding a bike since I was a child.

Dissatisfied and disappointed

Bike was difficult to put together, the derailer won’t stay in gear, the brakes are weak and some of the welds were sloppy. I would highly recommend not buying online. I’m disappointed in the bike, but it’s to much of a hassle to return it, so I’ll probably have to take it to a mechanic to adjust the gears

Problem with chain coming off!

I started riding my bike in April and after several rides (5) the chain came off. I took the bike back to the retail shop where I bought the bike and they fixed it and said it would never come off again. A month later after a few more rides the chain came off again. This time they put on a new sprocket. The mechanic did mention that 2 other customers were having the same problem. Another month went by with a few more rides and this time the pedal assembly and the chain came off again. This time I had to walk home 6 miles. Back to the shop where they put the old sprocket back on and fixed the pedal. At this point I was afraid to ride the bike any more so I took it to another shop. The mechanic replaced the crank with the same one that is used on the Roll 2 and so far not any problems. I really like the bike but feel there is a design issue with the crank on the Roll 3.

Modern Cruiser

Very, very nice bike. I have been riding a newer hybrid bicycle, and an older mountain bike (‘96 Klein Comp). I went looking for more of a laid back cruiser, but with disc brakes and multiple gears. Viola, I came across the Roll 3. Kind of an updated cruiser. Beautiful frame, paint, comfy seat, love the handlebars, effortless to ride. The new bike arrived sans pedals, which wasn’t a problem as I was planning to switch those out. Also a grade up in the derailleur and brakes would have been nice, but all works as expected. I’d recommend the Roll in a heartbeat.

Great "casual" bike. Happy with purchase(s)

My wife and I are both retired. At home we have custom road bikes, a mountain bike, and a road tandem. All of them are up for sale now that we have our Roll 3.0s. We looked at several options, including e-assist bikes. But we do not feel the need to set any speed records, and we are fit enough to skip the e-bike option. The Roll 3.0 is just plain comfortable. The seating position is midway between full upright and a mountain bike, so there is still decent control but it's easier on hands and neck. The almost-fat tires absorb a lot of minor road shocks. The suspension seat post also helps on a large bump. Since we have not bought a bike for about 15 years, it's fun to see the improvements. Hydraulic disc brakes come to mind. Shifting is another improvement. We both feel this bike is almost an adult retro-version of the bikes we had as kids. Not a bad thought, actually . . .

Perfect bike for big fellas

I have had a Specialized Roll for 5 years now and I've put a ton of miles on it. I'm close to 400 lbs and this thing has taken a beating but still keeps "rolling" along. I do probably 50% road riding and 50% gravel. It's very comfortable and handles us bigger folks great. The raised handlebars are great on the back. I recommend it to anyone that's on the larger size and is looking to get into cycling. 10/10!

Fun Bike

I own every class of bicycle. This is my first Comfort Bike. The versatility of the Roll is very nice. It handles well on both paved and mild trail riding. Being seniors, my wife and I were interested in something simple and comfortable to ride. We bought her a 3.0 Low Step (M) and me a 3.0 standard (XL) frame. The hydraulic disc brakes, kick stand, 2.3 smooth tread tires, gel seat, suspension post, riser bars and 1X8 gearing are the features. We tilted the handlebars back in line with the fork angle to be more comfortable reach. The grips are not very comfortable with bare hands and are being replaced with body geometry grips. I was prompted to by this bike after researching comparable brand models for a more comfortable, low step ride for my wife. I had to buy one for myself I was so impressed. The Roll 3.0 is the hands down winner for value, weight, components, style, comfort and quality build.

Not a comfortable bike

I got this bike in Feb 2023 and just don’t like it very much as it’s just not comfortable. It’s supposed to be a Comfort bike and it should have shocks up front. I realize this is not a mountain bike but riding around in town has its share of bumps and curbs we need to traverse. At the price point this should just be a standard feature. The seat is really uncomfortable and appears to be more of a mountain bike seat. Put some cushion in a comfort bike seat, I shouldn’t have to buy a gel cover or new seat to make the bike comfortable. My last gripe is no kick stand. Is it comfortable to pick up my bike from the ground all the time?

Great bike, love it!!!

I'm a very active, youthful sixty something former motocross racer. I love the Roll 3.0. My only issues are, Tires are great and make for a comfy ride, "But on dry, firm ground only". The other issue is, The chainring could be a few teeth smaller for easier climbs. Plus, the chainring is riveted on so its more complicated to change than most standard, quality bicycles. But, it's not a deal breaker. A smaller chainring and all weather tires would make it perfect. (I'll be making those changes after the newness wears off)

Great bike for cruising, casual touring, and parts swapping.

I bought a medium Roll 3.0 on February 2022 in all black. I'm 5'5", and the medium feels great. Due to some injuries, I've been riding this bike more than my 2019 Stumpjumper. So far, I've put in over 100 casual miles on it, riding for an hour or two at a party pace. Personally, I ended up swapping out the stock drivetrain with a Shimano SLX groupset, changing the stock handlebars to 820mm Surly Sunrise bars with Ergon GA3 grips, changing out the pedals to my favorite e.13 pedals, and changing the stock tires to Schwalbe Super Moto-X in 2.4 width. I also added the Roll/Como rear rack, and Specialized Pizza rack in the front. The only thing I didn't like on the stock bike was the Roll branded handlebar. Maybe it would be a better idea to ship those with an 800mm width and let the end user decide the final width? Overall, I am extremely satisfied with how this cruiser/fun bike setup turned out. I love it, and I always have some smiles, and good laughs on my rides.
