    2019 Men's Epic Hardtail Comp

Cross country courses are nothing like they used to be. Today's tracks have more in common with trail riding than the pancake flat NORBA courses of yesteryear. For this reason, we threw away the hardtail rulebook and drafted our own chapter to create the Epic Hardtail Comp. We took a revolutionary new frame design and spec'd it specifically for the rigors of racing contemporary XC courses.

It's one of the lightest frames we've ever made, tipping the scales around 1175g. And to make it this light, we built the entire frame from our superlative FACT 11m carbon fiber, and then we took some cues from our road bikes. We borrowed the Rider-First Engineered™ concept that originated with the Tarmac. Now, the frame design applies specificity to every tube size and carbon layup for every frame size. This creates the optimal balance of rigidity, weight, and responsiveness, so every frame, regardless of size, performs just as we intended.

We've also tweaked the geometry for more speed and stability by slacking-out the head tube angle, lengthening the top tube, and correcting the seat tube angle. This way, it feels more planted then ever, and frankly, it's stupid fast. We also widened the rear spacing to 12x148mm and included internal split-housing cable routing.

For the build, this Epic takes value to new heights with a custom-tuned RockShox Reba RL fork, 12-speed SRAM NX Eagle shifting, and fast rolling Roval Control Alloy wheels.

As good as the reviews promise

The Epic HT CARBON 2020 size 'M' does weigh 11,3 kg. It is not a featherweight, despite the 920g frame. Otherwise, its extremely comfortable (for an XC race machine), very compliant, fast steering and still stable in straights and curves. Excellent climber; the power all gets to the rear end. Very well finished and components all useable and reliable, if not the lightest. Obvious first upgrade would be a lighter fork. Nothing to complain about. I am 170cm and have adequate top tube clearance on a size 'M'; geometry is a perfect fit. Max dropper tube is 125mm for me.

    Heavier than expected

This bike does NOT weigh 18lbs, as a previous reviewer wrote. While I did not expect it to be that low, I purchased based off the review since no LBS will stock the Epic HT as they say they sit. I had them order a Small as I am a 5'3, 115lb female rider. . It is a nice bike. But was very disappointed to learn that it weighs in at 24.6 lbs. I think my full suspension is less than that.

    Light,fast,and climbs great

I traded my trek x caliber for this 2019 epic comp and the difference is amazing! Everything about this bike is great. It's light, fast, shifts great, descends good for a hardtail, good brakes. Good bike for xc racing. I advise going tubeless which is easy to do because tires and rims are tubeless ready.
