    2018 Men's Epic Comp

While carbon often gets all the credit, alloy is far from obsolete, especially the M5 premium aluminum with D'Aluisio Smartweld technology found on the Epic Comp Alloy. It's lightweight, stiff, and can also take a beating. But not only that, you also get a redesigned version of the Brain suspension technology that's made the Epic famous.

Race courses have evolved over the past few years. They're more technical, steeper, and simply more challenging to ride. But instead of quivering in our boots, we saw this as an opportunity to make something special—something that both World Cup athletes and XC riders alike can instantly feel the benefit from. We looked at the sum of parts that make a bike handle well, like the head angle, reach, stack, chainstay length, fork offset, etc., and reevaluated all of it. Increasing the reach made a bike that was more stable at speed and generally more comfortable to ride. Dropper posts? Yep, those fit, and not just a short-travel XC option, but full-length droppers that fit in the 30.9mm seat tube. Head angle? We slacked that out, but not without evaluating the overall handling package. It now lands on a custom offset, 42mm fork that works with the slacker head angle in order to behave itself in tight corners and through switchbacks.

Next comes the redesigned Brain technology, Brain 2.0. The Brain changed the way the bike world looked at suspension, both its inefficiencies and benefits alike. And oh was it good. It won races and put a flag in the ground for us as a true leader in innovation and suspension development, but we knew that we could make it better. Simple physics told us that, by moving the Brain closer to the rear axle, it would be in the most sensitive spot. And after countless hours with the RockShox team, the new Brain became more than just a slight upgrade. It's totally new. Now, it reacts seamlessly to bump forces, it has much more consistent damping performance, and finally, it integrates the hoses into the suspension links. This, in turn, improves oil paths, and it creates an incredibly sleek package that outperforms anything on the market.

At the heart of the construction, you'll find our M5 alloy with the exclusive D'Aluisio Smartweld Technology, which strategically places more welding material where it's needed, resulting in an aluminum bike that's more compliant and considerably stiffer at nearly every tube juncture.

The build of the Epic Comp Alloy is value-packed, featuring an 11-speed SRAM GX groupset, SRAM Level TL brakes, and a Roval Control alloy wheelset. Get ready, because this is going to be Epic.

    Amazing Fun bike!

Very good bike, have one for 5 years, it's very light for an alloy bike, lighter than most carbon bikes from other brands, very agile, fun and efficient!!

The Most Fun Bike Money Can Buy

It's not the lightest, it's not the fastest. But it is the most fun bike you could own. It has just enough rear shock to soften the jumps when needed and enough travel for a smooth and fun ride. Love this bike 10/10.

    Awesome bike for different terrains

I am from Argentina. We have some rough places to ride, across dry rivers with many stones, uphill, downhill, asphalt, etc. The bike does everything great. Never get to fall like other buddies. What a bike!!

    Excellent XC Bike!!!

Had this for 12 months now - simply love it for all the trails I ride. Only changes have been the tyres when they've worn. Concerning the Brain - you either love it or loath it. I've got used to the characteristics and love it.

    Surprised

I started with Specialized in 2004 with a Stumpjumper M5, then 2006 changed to the Epic Comp with the Fox Brain. Living in Munich I rode the bike a lot, to the alps, across the alps, in italy, in the lakes, everywhere.. and put even some Km/Miles on the Camino de Santiago, just loved the bike and the bike is mega rock solid (a 26). I always looked to the 29ners like the devil. Two months ago the devil took me and I bought this bike 2018. Long story short, my ""house track"" was 48-50 min round, now its a 42-43 min round with this bike, its on asphalt.. its Miami On the dirt the bike is also mega fast. Its taller with the 29 so you just fly over roots, holes etc, and dont hit your pedals with rocks that often. The handlebar is huge but very precise. Now to the best stuff, the 11 gears works very very good, I just miss some top speed, I need another 1-2 gears for full speed, however to be frank this is needed not that often. The 11 gears are very hard to adjust for perfect gear changes. The brain works great, the bike is light, looks amazing and its very good. Specialized: look at the bad review below, the guy is in love with his bike, he just need a shorter sattle, HELP HIM OUT!! I have the same problem! same height and a M size, however I just ride it that way. I just changed the stem to a shorter one and no back pain, no sleepery hands.. nothing. Thanks to Cabberty in Malaga that meassured me like in my old Ergonomic lectures at the TU Munich and proposed me to change the Stem. Guys, I still love my Epic comp 2006 and also my new Epic Comp 2018, will keep both. Ct

    Wow!!! Awesome bike

Size M. Weighs 12kg with pedals for the alloy version. This thing fly's up hills. Previous bike was a 10kg carbon hardtail and a Giant anthem. This thing much better than both. I'm a roadie first, and this is great bike. Comfy, but handles amazing. Grippy tires. Only thing that needs upgrading changing is the 30t chain ring to a bigger one. Joy to ride. Threaded bottom bracket a big plus. Previous bike had 27.5 wheels. 29er much better and faster. If you can swing it, get the carbon model of the same bike and save a kilo.

Amazing racy but comfy xc full squish ride

The handling is so sharp and predictable, fast, firm but super compliant shocks, I put a 75mm stem on in place of the 90mm for quicker steering. Overall the new design is much cleaner. Highly recommend weighs 28.6lbs with pedals size large.
