Men's Turbo Vado 4.0

2018 Men's Turbo Vado 4.0

It's a busy world out there, and the sad thing is, it's getting faster all of the time. That's why we design faster bikes for busy lives, like the all-new Vado 4.0. It takes our proven Turbo pedal-assist technology and tailors it in a package that's designed for getting you around your day-to-day life quicker than ever before. Busy lives call for faster bikes.

Beginning with a completely redesigned and integrated Specialized 1.2 motor, the Vado proves itself as the ultimate city bike. The Rx Street Tune takes the efficient output and makes it most usable for the urban environment—reacting to the amount of force you apply to the pedals. Think of it this way: The more power you put out, the more power the motor puts out, and this makes accelerations from a standstill both quick and efficient. The belt driven motor is also smooth, silent, and free of annoying vibrations. Perfect.

For the Vado 4.0, we developed a custom Specialized U1-504 battery that seamlessly integrates into the frame, is lockable, and easily removable for simplified charging. With this battery, the Turbo Vado will deliver a pedal-assisted boost up to 105 miles in Economy mode, 45 miles in Sport mode, and 30 miles in Turbo mode. These estimates, of course, have some assumptions—the total rider and bike weight is 220 pounds, the terrain is flat with some inclines, and there is either no wind or a light breeze. In other words, with a top speed of 28mph, there's plenty of juice to take you to and from work, a trip to the grocery store, or even to that new café on the other side of the city.

We also developed a custom-for-Vado 2.2-inch computer with the German powerhouse, BLOKS. With this touchscreen smart computer, you’re able to connect, via Bluetooth®, to our Turbo Vado Mission Control App (available later this year) for full control over your Vado. This app allows you to tune the motor to your personal preferences, it eliminates range anxiety through the Smart Control function, and it offers the rider a wide range of features, like including navigation, tracking, diagnostics, and ride history. You can also peruse through these screens via the custom handlebar remote, without ever removing your hand from the bars.

To top off all of the innovative features, we chose a worry-free spec on the Turbo Vado 4.0. Along these lines, it features Shimano 11-speed components, hydraulic disc brakes, racks, and fenders, so the Vado 4.0 will get you wherever you need to go, faster.

If it works, it's great

I really enjoy my Vado, but unfortunately there were lots of issues. Specialized seems not so interested if there are problems with a bike (the excuse was: we never haf this issue before). For this amount of money, the service is horrible. My Vado ( I use it almost daily and I need it for work) wasn't working anymore, so i haf to bring it to my retailer. There it was for 1 month! Just after 2 months riding. No sorry, nothing. No replacement, so I had to borrow a car and pay gas for 20 days. That's not how service works. However there is also no app for the vado models yet, which is, regarding the regular updates of the levo-app, embarrassing. Well, at least it rides again and so far without problems. But if there are problems and you are dependant on the bike- you're lost.

Love my Turbo Vado 4.0!

Only 4 weeks into ownership but more than enough miles covered now to know what I think. The bike is just a joy to ride and when it comes to nearing the end of a journey, I just want to keep going. Sadly the main disadvantages to ownership have been down to Specialized themselves. No app after all this time is ridiculous. There has been a change in spec too and the rear light built into the pannier has been removed and replaced by a cluster of LED lights on the rear mudguard. Nothing to reflect this change online and Specialized had a ""so what"" attitude when I called to ask. It cant be that hard to update the website and when spending more than 3 thousand on a bike its nice to know exactly what you are getting. But it hasn't otherwise spoiled my enjoyment of what is a brilliant bit of engineering. Was caught out last weekend and had to walk up a huge flight of stairs pushing the bike alongside the stairs and there is even a ""walking mode"" where it pushes itself along at walking speeds, they think of everything! Just hurry up with the App...!!

After almost a year still no app!

I've had the bike for 11 months and it's not been a pleasant ride! I really like to ride the bike when it works. There have been a number of issues, like it turns off when it rains, really? Yes! Some of the glitches has been corrected, one with a small addition where the bloks display is connected. Another when much of the cables to the motor was replaced. Still I've had several issues while riding when suddenly the motor stops helping. After powering on/off a number of times it might work again. Finally the issue with the mission control app - first being promised early fall (when I had had the bike 3 months) and then later postponed until winter and now being promised later 2018, really? When the bike works it's the best - but so far it's been a very bumpy ride and I don't think I would buy the bike again.

A great bike to ride with a decent range

I can't fault the design and quality of the bike and it's colour really stands out from other bikes. The only problem I have had is loss of power every now and again and that was due to to the controller not being fully seated into place. My fault really and since then it has been faultless. The only downside has been the continuing lack of thecumbria uk 🇬🇧 acumbrpp which was promised when I bought the bike a year ago....is it ever going to appear?
