Fabian Cancellara (Team Saxo Bank) is 1-for-1 with Specialized bikes. Boosted by Specialized BG Fit Integration Technology and his lightning-quick S-Works Transition bike, the rider known as "Spartacus" dominated the prologue of the 2009 Tour of California.
In his first race as a Specialized-equipped rider, 28-year-old Fabian Cancellara won Saturday's 3.9-kilometer opening prologue in the 2009 Amgen Tour of California. Rocketing his Specialized Transition over the twisting course in 4:32.9, Cancellara's win allowed him to slip into the yellow race leader's jersey by a margin of 1.2 seconds over defending two-time Tour of California Champion, Levi Leipheimer of Team Astana.
Cancellara's time trial prowess was aided by his brand-new Specialized Transition bicycle, which has been shown to be the most aerodynamic bicycle available in multiple wind tunnel tests and in top-level events like the Ironman World Championships.
Cancellara's impressive season-opening performance in California was advanced by the unique Body Geometry FIT session that he underwent during the off-season. With the guidance of Specialized's fit professionals and using proprietary process and tools, Cancellara's fit was fine-tuned for the best balance of power and aerodynamics.
Critical details of the Paris-Roubaix and Milan-Sanremo winning rider's position included setting up his Specialized S-Works Body Geometry shoes with just the right combination of ergonomic footbeds and wedges to perfectly align his hip, knee and foot for maximum power transfer.
The 9-day Tour of California continues on Sunday, February 15th, with a hilly 173-kilometer stage from the college town of Davis to the Sonoma wine country center of Santa Rosa. With a tight bunch finish in Santa Rosa's downtown predicted for the stage, it could be an excellent chance for another Specialized-equipped rider, Quick Step's team leader Tom Boonen, to grab a win aboard his S-Works Tarmac road bike.
