|Pit zones the size of football fields. Professional mechanics. A cacophony of cowbells. Fields of racers a dozen rows deep. These are the trademarks of big-time cycling races like the Tour de France, Tour of California, Sea Otter Classic, and … the Granite Bay Challenge?
Welcome to NICA, the National Interscholastic Cycling Association, a collection of mountain bike leagues that has been taking the high school sports scene by storm in the past few years. Now with leagues in nine states across the country, and thousands of youth participating, the NICA movement is truly a spectacle to behold.
We’re helping you do just that, even if you can’t make it to a race.
Specialized has funded a new documentary filmed called Singletrack High, which follows six very different students through a season in the Northern California league. It’s an incredible glimpse into the energy surrounding the league and the importance of mountain biking to these young people. The film was made by Pedal Born Pictures over a complete season, during which they followed each of their riders’ habits closely – going to school, preparing for races, even brushing their teeth!
Singletrack High is now released and touring the U.S. Find out more about the film and find a screening near you, or even host one yourself. www.nationalmtb.org/singletrackhigh
