Save our CA State Parks

Save our California State Parks! Earlier this year, Governor Schwarzenegger released the $141 billion state budget for Fiscal Year 2008-09, which begins on July 1, 2008. Included in the budget is the draconian proposal to shutter 48 state parks and reduce the number of lifeguards on 16 state beaches in Santa Cruz, Orange and San Diego Counties. Included on the list is Henry Coe State Park, right in our backyard at our headquarters in Morgan Hill.

Both IMBA CA and Specialized spoke at a rally on the West steps of the State Capitol on Monday April 7th, to crowd of over 300 supporters. The consistent message was that we love the outdoors, have a passion for riding and preserving and protecting the land and leaving a legacy for future generations to enjoy. It’s estimated there are over 5 million mountain bikers in California .

The California State Parks Foundation staged the rally in Sacramento to express its opposition to the proposal of closing the parks-- unthinkable for Californians to consider becoming a reality. Elizabeth Goldstein, CA State Parks Foundation President, urged all supporters to visit www.savestateparks.org to learn more and contact legislators.
