Mike’s Bikes Africa Program and Specialized

In October of 2011, Specialized donated about $937,000 worth of bikes and equipment to help support the Mike’s Bikes Africa Program. Well, we just got word that our donation has arrived. It took a while, but it got there safe and sound.

Flint Ridge Trail Expansion Project

For many mountain bikers, one of the hidden gems at Nantahala Outdoor Center is the Flint Ridge Trail: about 5 miles of trail with 2 loops. While it is a great riding trail, Flint Ridge is rather difficult to access, requiring bikers to ride or climb about 1,000 feet up a steep grade and navigate a number of narrow, uphill switchbacks to get to the main trail. Dealer Grant- Mayor Daley’s Junior Ambassadors

Mayor Daley’s Bicycling Ambassadors are Chicago’s primary source for bike safety information and encourage more residents to ride bikes. From May to September every year since 2001, the Bicycling Ambassadors talk face-to-face with Chicagoans of all ages about biking and bike safety.

The University of Oregon Ride in the Rain: A Celebration of Wet Weather Bike Transportation project was designed to promote inclement weather cycling and commuting to UO students. Located in Eugene, the UO is home to 22,000 students from around the world, many of whom arrive unprepared for bike travel during Oregon’s long wet winters untill now!

RAMBO, Roswell Bicycles, the City of Roswell, and other private sources have all come together to create a great addition to their cycling community. Construction of the Big Creek Mountain Bike Park, which includes a 3000 sq. ft. pump track, installation of a TRAFx trail attendance counting device, installation of three trail head informational kiosks, and the installation of trail designation signs.

Specialized Spain races Titan Desert Marathon to benefit Doctors Without Borders.

Watauga County, in partnership with the Watauga County Tourism Development Authority (WCTDA), has just received a $500,000 grant from the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) to assist with the acquisition and development for Rocky Knob Park.

Specialized Dealer Grant- Vermont Ride Center

The Vermont Ride Center – a trail network for multi-use recreation – The Ride Center concept was pioneered by IMBA, with this project being the first in the northeast, joining several other such facilities with this designation throughout the country. The goal of this project is to develop a trail network in the Stowe area, including Trapp Family Lodge, Sterling Valley, Stowe Town Forest, and Adams Camp. Details

Specialized Dealer Grant- Golden Bike Park CO

Having secured approval from City Council, COMBA (Colorado Mountain Bike Association) is now spearheading the construction of a bike-only skills park within the city limits of Golden, CO. Working closely with Parks & Recreation personnel and local residents, the Golden Bike Park Group has partnered with landscape architects, professional trailbuilders, and volunteers to create a destination which will cater to all ages and ability levels. The park, which is tentatively slated to open in early Summer 2010, is located at the northern end of Tony Grampsas Sports Memorial Complex (just east of North Table Mountain). Details

NICA 2010 California State Championships: Race Report

Nearly 500 student athletes from northern and southern California competed on the custom trails at Loma Rica Ranch in Grass Valley, California, as the second meeting of the NorCal and SoCal high school mountain bike racing leagues met in as many years to determine the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) California state champions.
