They came, they raced, and they showed the world just how exciting women’s racing can be—and is. In recognizing the historic significance of the first ever La Course by Le Tour de France event, Specialized Women partnered with race organizer the Amaury Sport Organization (A.S.O.) to be the Official Performance Bike of La Course by Le Tour de France 2014 and to help shine a light on women’s cycling.
Specialized Women sponsors two of the teams invited to the event—US-based Specialized-lululemon and Boels-Dolmans out of the Netherlands—and both teams gave their all, with Trixie Worrack, Lisa Brennauer (Specialized-lululemon), and Ellen Van-Dijk (Boels-Dolmans) each trying on separate occasions to set the race on fire and steal victory.
The teams of the pro peloton were well aware of the magnitude of La Course when they gathered on the Champs-Élysées circuit for the first time at 1 pm. In a race filled with relentless attacks, attempted breakaways, and a thrilling sprint—won by Marianne Vos—the women left it all out there for the world to see. Held prior to the final stage of the Tour de France entering Paris, La Course was a unique opportunity for the grit and tenacity of the women’s professional peloton to be seen by a global audience of millions, with the race broadcast in over 140 countries.
Specialized provides high-performance bikes and equipment to Specialized-lululemon and Boels-Dolmans, including the S-Works Amira, S-Works Road Shoe, and Prevail/Evade helmets to both, plus Roval Wheels and Specialized tires to Boels-Dolmans.
