I've always bought used or cheap bikes for my daughter, who's 8 at the moment. she's always struggled as older and cheap bikes are usually made of heavy steel. it's too much for kids to manage. literally her last bike weighed as much as my 29" mountain bike. She was constantly frustrated So I was looking for a light bike, I did some research and came across the jett24. we found one in a lbs. she was able to pick it up, no problem. she fell in love with it on the first ride. its so nimble and sturdy (her words) and she loves the trigger shifters, she hated twist shifts and I don't blame her. also most kids bikes have completely useless and heavy shocks. unless you have a kid who's really doing downhill single tracks or crazy jumps, kids don't need shocks. it's more important to save the weight by going with a solid fork. there's only one subtle flaw, and that's because of the shape of the handlebars, it's tough to get the shifter into a position she can still shift though.

Great hybrid bike for introducing gears to kids (7-9).

My son was having trouble learning to bike on a freebie we'd gotten from a friend. We bought him a Jett and he took right off on it. The geometry is perfect for him and he loves to ride it. He rides it on both cement and mellow mountain bike trail.

Great bicycle!! Easy to assemble and the gears are easy to shift for my 9 year old. This will grow with him for many years to come.

I purchased the 24" for my daughter who though petite is able to very comfortably handle this size bike due to all the fantastic adjustment capabilities. The bike shifts beautifully and is very easy for her to shift. I feel very confident that she will get many years of use out of this bike, you get what you pay for and ease of use really contributes to the joy of riding a bike.
