It’s a simple concept and one we’ve been pushing for a long time—the smoother the ride, the more control you have, the less fatigue you experience over time, and the faster you go. “Smoother is faster” originated with our FSR suspension, but we quickly applied the same logic to the road through bikes like the Roubaix, Ruby, and Diverge—as well as an ever-expanding range of equipment. And with five victories at the last seven Paris-Roubaixs on the Specialized Roubaix, our pros and enthusiasts alike continue to validate the performance benefits of a smoother ride.
HOW SPECIALIZED UNDERSTANDS COMPLIANCE
Unlike weight, or even drag, compliance is hard to quantify. That is why Specialized has partnered with F1 leader McLaren in order to truly understand what “smooth" means. From lab protocols to fully instrumented bikes, Specialized understands how the rider and road surface interact—because you can’t engineer for what you don’t understand.
HOW IT’S DONE
From It’s CG-R seatpost to the Zertz viscoelastic dampers in the fork and seatstays, the Roubaix is designed to filter both high frequency vibrations and big hits from the road— so your body doesn’t have to.
The Zertz vibration dampers are designed to take the edge off of high the frequency imperfections that every road rider rider knows well. From chip sealed roads, to cracks and everything in between, Zertz take the edge off of even the worst road surface.
The CG-R Carbon Seatpost is designed to flex under the force of an impact from the road without changing the cockpit dimensions of the bike, ensuring that the rider’s energy is saved for what matters—putting force into the pedals.
We’ve engineered our Turbo tires to have a true 26mm profile and have extended the tread to further down the shoulder for enhanced performance and a more comfortable, smoother ride.
