Team Omega Pharma - Quick Step
Made in Racing isn’t just a tag line, it’s a fact. Pro Tour level teams have big decisions to make in regards to equipment choices. Because it’s the main contact point between the rider and the road, the right tyre choice is critical. A year ago the Omega Pharma-Quick Step team and Tony Martin found themselves flatting out of the Tour de France TT on a prototype S-Works Turbo tyre. The combination of a faulty rim strip and new tyre technology left us looking at how we could overcome the setback with a better product. We learned from this and responded with not just a better tyre, but quite possibly the best bicycle racing tyre ever made.
What was Omega Pharma-Quick Step’s reaction to the new compound? They can’t get enough of them. The riders have put the tyres through some of the worst weather the racing calendar has seen and the result has been consistent wins throughout the season.
A sprint specialist like Mark Cavendish needs a tyre that can deal with explosive power and deliver superb handling. When Cav’s instincts kick in, he relies on the S-Works Turbo’s extreme grip, which allows for sudden steering input at high speeds and extreme lean angles. Cav scored his 100th win (amongst others this season) on S-Works Turbo tubulars.
THE TIME TRIALIST
To time trial at World Champion level like Tony Martin, the tyre must be the fastest out there. Tony turns to S-Works Turbo tubulars and clinchers for their low rolling resistance and safe handling so he can go top speed on all TT courses, in all conditions in an efficient and economical manner.
The S-Works Turbos are reliable under extreme weather conditions and feature second generation puncture protection. Having already been proven in some of the most punishing weather and toughest races out there it’s no wonder it’s the tyre of choice for Belgian hard man Tom Boonen.
