Alberto Contador (TCS) conquered the first place of the Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco General Classification aboard his Tarmac SL4 with only exception of the last ITT stage competed aboard Shiv TT. Contador led the “Euskal Herriko Itzulia” 54th edition, from the beginning, defending his yellow jersey and confirming his domination with the second victory of the season after Tirreno-Adriatico.
Tarmac SL4 proved to be the right choice thanks to the lightness and reactivity, while the extreme aerodynamic Shiv TT, allowed to set the best ITT time, which saw 3 Specialized supported riders on the podium, with a best time of 38/33, registered by Tony Martin (OPQS), winner of the last stage. (Average Speed 40,31 km/h).
Specialized Racing has been key in the final result supporting its riders in giving them the right information when it comes to performance and how to take the best out of their bikes. Especially in the last TT Specialized Racing run a profile of the course, mapping the conditions, like weather and wind to help the teams defending the strategies requested. This adds up to the work done with both Contador and Kwiatowski this winter in the wind tunnel in Morgan Hill, where, together with Specialized Racing Performance Crew, they defined important parameters with the goal to improve aerodynamic and riding efficiency.
Alberto Contador: “The TT was crucial for me, that’s the reason why it was very important to have the best feeling possible with the bike. I have been riding my Specialized for a long time, I know how it works on every kind of terrain, so I was able to get the maximum performance and defend my jersey of leader of the Pais Vasco on a course where you have to climb, keep the aerodynamic position on the flat parts, and take some risks on the super-flat descent.”
