Two Specialized Employees, a new bike, an incredibly, exhausting race and a common dream – Starting on August, 2nd Recep Yesil and Erik Nohlin will paddle from London to Istanbul within the Transcontinental Race.Recep and Erik work for the Specialized R&D Team in Switzerland. Recep develops bikes, while Erik is responsible for the Design. Both have passed a several kilometers on their bikes already. Recep has worked as a bicycle courier for 8 years. He was dreaming of pedaling to his hometown Istanbul ever since. Erik is provabial a “Randonneur”. Besides a half-year journey through the USA on bike, he successfully finished a couple of singe stage races from 200 – 1.000 kilometers. The Transcontinental Race is Europe’s longest and toughest singe stage race, were cyclers participate alone and unsupported. Reliant only on what they carry and find in public available services. Even the Alps will be traversed on their 3.200 kilometers journey - In total Recep and Erik will pass 35.000 meters in hight. Of course they will residence in a 4-star hotel – NO, they won’t: Both will carry their own luggage, tent and food on their bicycles. They can determine the route on their own, but they need to pass two checkpoints between start- and finish line. The goal is to pedal the 3.200 kilometers and reach Istanbul within 14 days.
