Reign in Spain

As has become customary for the German powerhouse, Tony Martin took yet another Grand Tour TT stage victory today at the 2014 Vuelta a Espana. Finishing 47 seconds ahead of the next closest finisher, Martin showed why he currently wears the rainbow jersey in the race against the clock. In the GC contest Alberto Contador put in a dazzling display to take 4th on the day, but more importantly, secure the red jersey as the overall leader of the race.

In a course highlighted by its tricky opening kilometres through twisty back roads, Tony Martin relied on his S-Works Shiv TT to help guide him to the top podium spot. In a stage that saw more than a few crashes, Tony was able to keep the rubber side down thanks to his S-Works Turbo Tires whose low rolling resistance and superior grip have been a staple of Tony’s TT setup all season. Making sure to take every aero advantage available, Tony also chose to race his S-Works TT helmet.

After winning the individual time trial at the Tour de France earlier this year, Tony is making a strong case for yet another rainbow jersey at the World Championships this year in Ponferrada, Spain. With another two weeks of racing left Contador will have his work cut out for him as he pursues his third Vuelta title. Additionally with the final stage in Santiago de Compostela being yet another individual time trial there’s a chance Tony could take yet another stage victory.
